(DISCUSSION) Roll with Lack until we clinch 2nd

Well it's tough to decide as fans on the sidelines

If I'm Willie, I'll ask him how he feels. If he's good to go, then I'll use him tonight. Otherwise I'd go with marky. Both are great goalies.

Miller is still our #1

A movie role?..X Files?! Interesting...

I'd rather roll with Lack, since, like the lucky die in the metaphor, he's bringing good results; if we role with him, I'm not too sure about his acting talent, and he may choke on stage.

Sorry, bad good grammar moment.

I think you go with Markstrom tonight and save Lack for Chicago.

The rookie tender in net may be what the team needs to play a sound game in front of him. It might be enough to fight off mental errors on a back-to-back. In addition, if we end up going with lack into the playoffs at least for the first few games he is going to need to be rested.

Miller's not even skating yet, so he's not a factor.

The only factor is that he's our #1 and has a better win percentage

When will you learn that win percentage is an irrelevant stat as a goaltender?

Are you telling me that Miller is a better goaltender than Schneider? (Hint - he is not).

They don't have the same team, so it's a different context. Same team takes out the variation in the skill of the team playing in front of the goalie. Devils are a worser team than Canucks but the Canucks aren't worse or better then the Canucks.

That's exactly my point. Win percentage is not relevant in comparing goaltenders. The team plays differently in front of Lack than they do in front of Miller. There were a ton of injuries when Lack has been playing unlike earlier this season with Miller.

Therefore you should be looking at sv% and GAA.

Hint, Vancouver is poised to get in the playoffs. New Jersey isn't.

Wins are a part of what makes a goalie good, it's not the end all be all. You have to look at ALL the stats and watch how a goaltender plays overall. But to say it's irrelevant is denying facts.

I've seen good technical goalies, on bad teams as backups put up good numbers. But they never get the wins. And they stay as backups because of a lack of wins, or a lack of consistency.

It's also what are the goals you let in? If you have a GAA of 1.98, but you let in an easy goal every game you're not going to get a lot of trust. When's the last time you've seen a goalie with a losing record keep his starting job?

Do you think we should stick with lack every game until we clinch 2nd?

Hopefully we clinch before the coyotes game so we can rest him the 2 games before the playoffs.

Lets say we clinch by the time Miller is back. We rest Lack and play Miller and he starts tearing it up. Do we go back to Lack or keep rolling with Miller?

Not really since when the team plays with miller they play better could because of his style and not just on injuries as you are suggesting. There were injuries when miller was playing and even if you take out the massive injuries games played by the Lack his win % will not exceed his. I am not saying sv% and GAA aren't important but it is to ponder why the team plays better defensively in-front of Miller when compared to lack.
