Faceoffs

The enemy media out there thinks we think Richardson is the second coming of Joe Sakic. But who cares what they say. With Richardson back, this is the healthiest, most-complete team we've iced in the playoffs in quite some time.

And when Kassian comes back it will be in time to face teams that may have the big defenders he'd be needed to face against. Calgary isn't that team.

Gotta hand it to Benning and Linden. This is clearly the year.

No need to worry too much. Faceoffs are not that important of a factor in winning.

When playing in the playoffs every little thing HelpS. Sure its not everything but it does give an advantage for sure, there is no denying it lol

FO% is overrated. The Canucks were tied for the second worst in the league and they made the playoffs and have home ice advantage. Do you know who they were tied with? The New York Rangers, who won the Presidents' Trophy.

Carolina had the third best FO% in the league and they missed the playoffs by a mile. Arizona was seventh.

Granted, it would be nice to win most of the time, but it is hardly something that will cost the Canucks the Stanley Cup.

Yes this is correct. Faceoffs seem to be one of those things many people overvalue. Sure they are nice to be good at, but they are generally an insignificant factor in winning.

It's been a problem all season and one of the reasons the PP has struggled. (The PK being where it is shows just how good the team really is, when shorthanded)

It was basically the only reason that I was advocating getting in on the Antoine Vermette sweepstakes at the trade deadline...

I wasnt active here when the off season was in effect, but always thought he would be a good fit in the top-3 down the middle.

Also felt that Dom Moore came out of hibernation, i thought the Canucks would target him. Lucky AV. He gets to use the same concept of sheltered minutes to certain centers.

Maybe someone can answer this question (I'm too lazy to google it) .....

Defending center has to have stick on the ice first for defensive zone face-offs (IIRC thought to be a disadvantage, introduced to try and engender more offense). Can the offensive center be thrown out if he consistently tries to get his stick down first?

Reason for the Q - in last night's game (Rangers) Vey (71%) and Cracknell (63%) were awesome on defensive face-offs (Bo and McCann, both at 50%, held their own)

But Vey and Crackers sucked on neutral and offensive zone faceoffs (0% and 20% respectively), so obviously are better at winning when they have their sticks down first.

(as an aside, we had only 8 Ozone faceoffs, and won just 2 (Bo took 6 and won the 2), compared to 25 dzone ones, and we won 15 of these)
