well folks.

some time out to refresh. I´m still angry/sad but at least I was on a city where NOBODY annoys you and you can disconect from whatever you want...

this is Tutoia...

considering the fact that I have 6 uncles living there as well other relatives living there and I always have a place to stay. the city is a small fishermen place where the fish, shrimp, crab and other "sea food" drives the local economy. no industry, no big market activity "non fish related". just fishing

the internet is bad, the cellphone conection is weak and nobody in the city knows what the hell is "English". there´s no organization on car traffic and the city is hot like hell all year long...

but It´s a damm good city if you need take your time to relax and forget your problems.

in Fortaleza. ready to go to São Luis..

your trip starts in São Luis. where you take the bus and 10 hours late you are in Tutoia...

gallery_81140_539_256079.jpg

bus station in São Luis...

if you like see different things as I do you might find yourself in the middle of a "folk festival". because things up there are kinda unique. it´s hot, it´s sunny, it´s noisy but the amount of frenetic movement, musics and people with different local accents might make you confusing and lost.

but it´s a good thing. because you´ll never be bored...

our bus...

gallery_81140_539_273159.jpggallery_81140_539_14801.jpg

10 hours on a bus. yeah. that´s not easy...

but the landscape around you is nice. it´s another world. from the big cities people are used you go to a place where nobody cares about iphones, ipods, computers. they´re worried about if their food is good enought and if it´s raining or not...

gallery_81140_539_162490.jpg

bus as soon you arrive there that´s your reward...

gallery_81140_539_773307.jpggallery_81140_539_140021.jpg

imagine a beach without annoying people trying to sell you things...

imagine a place without stupid drunk tourists shouting and making noises...

imagine you can have the ENTIRE BEACH for you for hours and hours...

yes. I had it. since the city is very small and the beaches are very, very big you can have your own beach for free. just go there, choose a spot and enjoy.

warm water, calm sea (no big waves) and all you need to do is go inside the warm water (25C all the time) and enjoy the sea and the sun.

I was in the heaven...

gallery_81140_539_639226.jpg

loamy sand, mangrove sand, and my steps marked there...

some people say this kind of sand is good because they´re rich in minerals and other things. crabs like it so it should be good for something. locals use them as some sort or cream to put on their skin. must be good because their skin become very strong and clean. never tried but my feet liked...

gallery_81140_539_2596.jpg

a little snake. well, normal, tastes good too...

gallery_81140_539_248981.jpg

then I became bored of salt water. so I went to this lake...

the water is clean and hot so be carefull as once you stop swiming some fishes (Piabas) will swim around you and will "bite" your skin. it doesn´t hurt but you might not like see hundreds of fishes swiming around you, or you might like it and let then do whatever they want...

OR you can fish them and eat. tastes good fried with eggs...

gallery_81140_539_837830.jpg

around Tutoia...

gallery_81140_539_679228.jpg

fried feet?

Use sandals there. it´s hot, hot, hot! 40Celsius all day long. you might feel burned but a walk is a good idea to see old and historic buildings that you don´t see on a touristic book guide. but it´s a nice way to know the local history about cities you will never listen from the regular tourist...

gallery_81140_539_441337.jpg

no matter how far you go. there´s always a church...

gallery_81140_539_1171165.jpggallery_81140_539_310885.jpg

old buidings around the church. I like the old architecture, from the 18th century I think...

gallery_81140_539_628202.jpg

the plaza in front of the church...

Amazing that how far you go, how small and desert the city is, hot extremely hot the city is...

they keep strong and believing. you have to admire it. they could be rational and move to a big city...

but no. they want improve their small city. you have to give them a credit for that...

gallery_81140_539_137503.jpggallery_81140_539_732095.jpg

gallery_81140_539_948089.jpg

sand dunes...

yes. they´re nice. and walk around them is awesome, you make real exercises there! no gym stuff. it´s a real deal!

it´s hot, your feet is burning and the wind makes you covered with sand which also sinks your feet making you to put more force on your climb...

once you reach the top. you have a wonderful view of the hole city of Tutoia. beaches, lakes, "city centre", pier, everything...

gallery_81140_539_869776.jpg

coconut water here is not taken from a box. it´s taken from the fresh coconut and you drink it 20 seconds later...

gallery_81140_539_198683.jpg

City hall...

gallery_81140_539_586027.jpg

our bags (mine and from my dad) ready to get the bus on our way to São Luis...

gallery_81140_539_844009.jpggallery_81140_539_591344.jpg

it´s bus time. again 10 hours back. at least the bus is good and comfortable...

gallery_81140_539_480433.jpg

not sure if this this is considered a god, a very famous bull or just some statue...

gallery_81140_539_210919.jpg

well. back to the big city again. at least the weather was sunny...

gallery_81140_539_317603.jpg

when I took this "selfie" I was covered with sand, just had left the beach, it was wind, was hot like hell...

But I was happy there...

Do you know what I realised after pass 10 days on a very small city with very humble and simple people?

this thing:

In Tutoia nobody cares about big cities, nobody cares about computers, games and the "adrenaline" of cars rushing around and malls...

for them the only 4 important cities around them is the cities they need in case or emergency for services that Tutoia doesn´t have. they only need to know about São Luis (600km), Parnaiba (250km), Teresina (600km) and Chapadinha (200km). you can tell them you came from Toronto/Canada. they´ll think nice but honestly they don´t care because for them big cities are just "big troubles" ...

they don´t care about other languages because all they need is how speak normaly, fish well and eat a nice food everyday...

people there are humble, they treat you on a humble way and they don´t care about where did you came from or who you are because it will not make diference for them. sure they want know more about you but you can be the president of USA but they have to look for their small and hot city and their faith in god makes them live there despite their challenges...

and they don´t have to care about the "big apples" around the world. because when you have this on your "door"

gallery_81140_539_164266.jpg

you REALLY don´t care about the big city and their big problems...

people there are your friends because they like you. and some time with my family and they told me "yes Rod. give a f#¨¨$ to that loosers. you´re a smart guy, a strong guy and we gonna help you. this city is the city where you can relax, this is the place where you´re not justa tourist. here you´re one of us"

honestly. 10 days burning my skin on the sun and I had my very own space to be quiet and happy.

glad to be there...

Wow that's gorgeous. I've never been out of North America sadly

it doesn´t mean there´s nothing to see there. I don´t know many small cities in North America.but I bet there are many small cities in USA and Canada that are as just nice and simple as Tutoia.

you just have to ignore the common "touristic cities" and go for the different ones...

First person to quote OP should get banned.

Gotta agree with that. One of the things that drives me nuts on this board...

I remember Heretic making a graphics heavy post in the ISIS thread (about the Norwegian army) and some guy quotes the entire thing just so he can essentially say "orly"?

Forgot to tell this. but althout looks crazy that´s 300% real. and you can check it...

What If I tell you guys that in Maranhão (state where Tutoia is located) "Jesus" is not only the name of a god?

but also the name of a soft drink?

yes. this one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guaran%C3%A1_Jesus

800px-Guaranajesus.jpg

yes. in Maranhão you can say "give me some Jesus" or "I want more Jesus" and even "I want this Jesus with ice please!"

yes. this pink Guaraná called JESUS is a sucess there. my family likes and have sugar enought to make a regular American happy for 2 things:

1) it has a lot of sugar

2) you say the name "Jesus" many times without look religious because the name of the stuff is Jesus so instead say "give one more please" you say "give me more Jesus".

Yes. it´s unique :)
