Playoff clinching scenarios Tue April 7

With five days remaining in the regular season, there are eight berths up for grabs in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

These are the clinching scenarios for games Tuesday:

* The New York Rangers would clinch the Presidents' Trophy if they defeat the New Jersey Devils in any fashion.

* The Rangers would clinch the top seed in the Eastern Conference if they get at least one point against the Devils.

* The New York Islanders would clinch a playoff berth if they get at least one point against the Philadelphia Flyers OR if the Ottawa Senators lose to the Pittsburgh Penguins in any fashion.

* The Penguins would clinch a playoff berth if they defeat the Senators in regulation.

# # #

* The Detroit Red Wings would clinch a playoff berth if they defeat the Carolina Hurricanes in any fashion AND the Senators lose to the Penguins in regulation.

* The Minnesota Wild would clinch a playoff berth if they defeat the Chicago Blackhawks in regulation OR if they win in a shootout AND any of the following occurs:

the Flames fail to win in regulation or overtime;

the Jets lose in any fashion; or

the Kings lose in any fashion.

* The Wild also would clinch a playoff berth if they lose to the Blackhawks in overtime or a shootout AND any of the following occurs:

the Kings lose in regulation;

the Kings lose in overtime or a shootout AND the Jets lose in regulation;

both the Flames and Kings lose in any fashion; or

the Flames lose in any fashion AND the Jets lose in regulation.

* If the Wild lose to the Blackhawks in regulation, they would clinch a playoff berth if both the Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings lose in regulation.

* The Vancouver Canucks (idle) would clinch a playoff berth if any of the following occurs:

the Kings lose in regulation;

the Kings lose in overtime or a shootout AND the Flames lose in regulation;

the Kings lose in overtime or a shootout AND the Flames fail to win in regulation or overtime AND the Jets lose in regulation; or

both the Flames and the Jets lose in regulation.
