Canucks in the process of rejuvenation and overhaul -- A new fan's observation

I'm quite new to NHL, so please bear with me if my opinions sound silly.

Recently we've seen lots of extensions and salaries raises in the team, mainly for younger players, and with extensions of 3 years and more and raises of 1-2.2 times their original salaries, I'm thinking that the team is going to rejuvenate and will drop some old and big names say for example Hamuis and Bieska (both paid 4+million annually) in or after the next season when their contracts expire.

I'm also expecting the team to trade Zack Kassian (Dorsett is the perfect substitute for him) and Brad Richardson (injury prone)

I do hope Shawn Matthias stay with the team for few more years but I know chances are not looking that good.

Anyways, I do wish Nux is good enough to go as far as Stanley Cup final this year.

They don't play a similiar game at all, that's the problem with people who hate on Kassian. He's never going to play like a Dorsett even though everyone wants him to, including WD at the start of the season. His game is based on his vision and passing skills like J. Thornton and once WD realized that and started to let him play we all saw what he could do. Without his run those 10 games or so that helped spark the team, we might not even be in the playoffs right now.

not really, both very different players. Although Kassian can scrap and play like a grinder, he's shown us that he's more of an offensive player than a grinder like dorsett, Kassian is much more skilled than Dorsett (not taking anything away from DD).

Also, we aren't overhauling. I'm not sure whether it was trev or JB but one of them said that they want to build around the current team and aren't going to blow the team up.

Joe thornton was center, who knew how to use his size better than Kassian and also when he first came into the league he was more physical and better along the board than Kassian. At the beginning of the season WD wanted to teach Kassian how to play along the boards, how physical he needs to be and what work ethic it takes to be in the nhl and Dorsett is a good example of this. Without all this how is he supposed to become a good player in the NHL as all players that play Kassian's style need this.

Dorsett is the bottom 6 player that's kinda similar to Kass, but not really. Kass has more talent and a higher upside, he just hasn't reached it yet. The hope is that he can be at least a modest 2nd liner.

Richy, I'd argue to be one of the best, and hardest working 4th liners in the league. I wouldn't jump to moving him so quickly.

And lastly as good as Matty has appeared to be around the middle half of the season. A reality is that he only has 7 points in like 48 games versus the west, and has a big negative for that collection of games played. He's more suited to the eastern conference in my opinion. He's got the size, but doesn't use it unless it's to drive to the net.

we have 12 forwards signed for next year, counting baerschi....that leaves vey, richardson and matthias, unsigned...i believe they will keep vey....i don't see any rookies making the team next year out of training camp....we have 5 defensemen signed and 2 goalies....you have to believe that corrado or clendening will be part of the 8....barring trades, this team is pretty set for next year....if they can't find an offensive defenseman, you'ld think, they would bring weber back.

I think as soon as Benning can get value for Kassian, he'll be traded quicker than Kessel on a hot dog.

Kassian plays well on the Sedin line but doesn't seem to play well anywhere else. I'm sure the Canucks would like to see more versatility out of him.

Whether or not Benning can get good value for him (2 second round picks?), that's the question.

He carries the 3rd line every time he's on it and was our best player the 2nd half of last season, not playing on the Sedin line.

Every time he gets on a roll he gets injured. He has bad luck more than anything.

Oh ffs give it a rest. The guy has an opinion he is not hating Kassian. Enough with the paranoia.

Replacing older players with younger ones is an ongoing process so it becomes a bit of semantics between an overhaul, rebuild, blow up, etc. Really, they are kind of the same thing just a question of pace and number (do they release 1 or 2 vets or 5 or 6). Too slow you end up with an older team, too fast you end up with a team of rookies without mentors and leadership.

The Canucks over the last couple of years have been a little lacking in new blood and I think the current management is trying to fix that without blowing up "the core" (another ambiguous term). The idea, I think, is that some of the newer players will benefit from the current leadership group (Sedins et al) while they are still able to contribute and make up a competitive team. The fear is that the prospects and rookies won't come on line before the current leadership group or core is "done".

Everyone plays well on the Sedin line. If that's his only value, he's got none at all.

There's so much Kassian based drama on here, but I've not seen anything positive from him other than a good effort for about three games after he was a healthy scratch.

Turf him.

Get someone with the will to try hard out there every time, not just after a kick in the butt, fading again over time.

The whole pro/con Kassian debate took on a bit of a life of its own out of proportion to the player. He's more than a "trade for a bag of pucks" player, but he's not the franchise player of the future, either.
