I agree with you. That line is so good with finding open spots on the ice. Gaudreau is very elusive and agile with great vision. He can dump the puck off to a team mate and find open ice so quickly to get the return pass.

I wonder if the best way to defend them is to play the trap and create a jam at the blue line so that they cant skate in and find seams to skate/pass.

The trap (against the Flames) worked well for the Wild but not at all for the Predators.

I've watched a lot of Flames games this year, been to about 15 games.

I can tell you that Monahan is the real deal, a true beauty. He is a game changer. See the goal against the Coyotes last week. Gaudreau is not Physical, but the guy rarely seems to get hit. His hands are lightning fast and he is lethal. Hudler has quietly been a deadly force. Probably the best value contract in the NHL this year. Say what you want about that line being too inexperienced but they got the job done during the season when no one thought they would and they'll be looking to get the job done again. Don't be surprised if they do.

The thing about the Flames, is that all season long they were supposed to fail. But the Flames truly have the will to win and having seen them play quite a bit this season I'd be worried about them as a team.

I know the ship has sailed but would have loved to see Baerstchi Bonino Vrbata against that line. Those lines are eerily similar. I think Baerstchi would have out performed Gaudreau while Vrbata would have out performed Hudler. The x factor would be Bonino vs Monahan.

If that line played even, the Sedins would light up their opposition and our bottom 6 would out score theirs

I think Calgary is banged up pretty bad this season. If the Canucks rough them up a bit, it might give them an edge in the series.

I know Monahan and Gaudreau aren't 100%, so if I was Willie I would be telling guys like Ronny and Dorsett to line them up when they can.

I agree 100%. Shouldn't stop at Ronny and Dorsett though. Hansen, Burrows, Matthias, Sbisa, Edler, Bieksa ect. all need to be punishing guys every chance they get. I'd give the Sedins a pass, but everyone else needs to step up their physical game.

Came in expecting a discussion on the defensive pairing that will face that line

I would say Hamhuis - Tanev for the reason that Edler is too big to contain the little guys (sounds funny I know), but Gaudreau and Hudler are too small and shifty - these two know how to actually work their size to their advantage

I think Hamhuis is the only mobile-enough defenceman that can contain Gaudreau and since we don't need a physically imposing defender against this line (small other than Monahan and he isn't someone who overpowers others), Tanev would do well against them

Save Edler's pairing with Weber and Sbisa's with Bieksa for the bigger bodies in Calgary's lineup

Was looking for opinions about the D-pairings as well.

IMO, id like to see the pairings kept intact.

I wouldnt be suprised to see if the Flames youngsters are going to be played physical; make them wary, keep them angled from the slot and in perimeters. Hudler is the X-factor for sure.

If Eddie gets Viking on those kids...it could be a difference maker
