I would like to target first round draft picks # 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7. Would any of these offers be good enough to get the pick............going to pay large.........play big or go home!

Premise............Buffalo wins first overall...........picks remain in the same order as now.

3rd Overall (Edmonton) for 2015 first, 2017 first, Hamhuis and Lack

4th Overall (Toronto ) for 2015 first, 2017 first, Hamhuis and Lack

5th Overall (Carolina) for 2015 first, 2017 first, Vey, and Lack

6th Overall (New Jersey) for 2015 first, 2017 first, Vey and Higgins

7th Overall (Philadelphia) for 2015 first, 2017 first, and Lack

Or

Name the NHL Player you think you could acquire with one of the offers

How about take a step back and just watch and try to enjoy the playoffs and see if the Canucks can go more than a round first?

Plenty of time to talk about the future if the Canucks are not playing in June.

I know your name is a new beginning but really your proposals of stripping it down and rebuiling or starting over or whatever word you want to use is going to be ridiculed and not taken seriously.

We are in the midst of the best time of the year to be a hockey fan so try to enjoy the present moment, don't worry about the past or start thinking ahead to the future just yet.

The 2017 draft is "supposedly" going to be pretty deep, and we have no idea how the Canucks will be two years down the line. We may well be a bottom-5 team if the play of our stars drops off and the rookies have a few sophmore slumps.

If we want a top-5 pick in this draft, it'll be tough. The top 2 picks are definately not up for grabs IMO. 3rd to 5th would land us Hanifin, Strome or Marner - essentially a future top-10 defenceman in the NHL (top pairing guy for 5-10 years) or a top line center.

Edmonton and Toronto are in similar boats - both have a pretty decent young center in the pipeworks (Nylander and Draisaitl) but could use a Strome or Marner to play ahead of them. Both teams have a couple of good young defencemen (Nurse, Reilly etc.) but Hanifin would again be an upgrade on them.

Assuming Hanifin goes 3rd and Strome/Marner go 4th, here's what I think it would take:

For the 3rd overall pick, we have to give up Vancouver's 1st round pick in 2015, a young defenceman like Sbisa, an A-grade prospect like Baertschi/Jensen and a decent roster player like Higgins/Bonino.

agree with this except jensen is far from an a-grade prospect at this point

Brian Burke is a play big or go home type of guy. Look at where that left the Leafs.

You trade intelligently. Not because you want to make a big splash. Your obsession over getting a centre makes no sense either if you look at our hockey club and our roster and prospects. If anything we need a Norris calibre D-man to be added. Shea Weber was drafted in the second round. You can find these guys if you do your homework.

Want to trade for high picks. Go play NHL15. If you're too impatient to see what happens with Benning's moves I can't help you. Life is not like a video game.
