Horvat, 2nd line center!

Put Vrbata back with the Sedins. He's proven with the twins and wasted on the second line.

Horvat is an effective two-way player and great on faceoffs. Get him a bonafide left winger and play Kassian on the right.

Play Bonino where he belongs as the 3C along with Burrows and Baertschi.

This would be a killer lineup:

Daniel - Henrik - Vrbata

( ) - Horvat - Kassian

Baertschi - Bonino - Burrows

Kenins - Richardson - Hansen

I think he'll definitely end up there at some point in the season.

Those suggesting Bonino sucks and we need to get rid of him are out to lunch though. He's a real good player just a little outmatched on the second line. We knew this coming into the season and unless you wanted to trade Virtanen for a legit one, you gotta be patient and build from within. Even Horvat would've likely been a little outmatched last season. We're making due and building a team. It's a process lol

Not next season he's not, hopefully. He's not top-6 material next season any more than Bonino was this season. Would love to see Bonino packaged to acquire a true verteran (but, not necessarily "old", just better) top-6'er to center the second line, with Horvat holding down the 3rd. Let's not anoint Horvat to top-6 center and captain-in-waiting just yet.

You don't put all your eggs in one basket IMO. Having Vrbata on the 2nd line lets you spread out the offense and have two solid lines that are both a threat to score. Far harder to defend against. You still play him with the twins on the PP and can load up that line say trailing, late in the 3rd if needed. He also remains an option to move up if we run in to injuries.

Frankly Burrows or ideally (if he can earn his keep) Kassian, are more ideal team mates 5v5. With Vrbata, the twins have to do more, far more difficult board play. With Burr or Kass, they can concentrate more on making plays and let the third guy do more of the difficult board battles, puck retrieval and net front presence.

As for the thread subject, I don't think Horvat's quite ready for 2nd line duty but he's not far. Really we're looking at a 2A and 2B line next year anyway IMO

Sedin, Sedin, Kass/Burr

Baer, Bonino, Vrbata

Burr/Kass, Horvat, Hansen

Higgins/Kenins, ???, Dorsett

I don't think Bonino is outmatched on the 2nd line. He put up nearly the same stats as Kesler and with a better +/- on a worse team.

His two way game was really good, he just doesn't have any physicality.

Bonino's fine. He's a competent (albeit not fast) 2C who needs good W's to play with as he's not going to be dominant or the guy who "drives" that line. Baer, Bonino, Vrbata should be a good 2nd line next year.

Matt Beleskey is coming off a solid 32 point season (22g 10a 8GWG) and would be a good finisher on the second line. He's UFA and will likely command 2.5m... Who's a redundant vet on our team making 2.5m and plays in the ozone like he's using the wrong handed stick? I'll give you a hint... The best part about him is his beard.

Yeah i don't necessarily disagree. Classic case of can't be the best player on the line. Needs legit top six scorers on both wings.

Bo Horvat faces easier competition than Nick Bonino. So stop saying stuff like "He's better than Bonino because he played less minutes and produced nearly as much"

Still, a 4th liner producing at Horvat's rate is a great sign. It means he can be effective as more than just a 4th liner. But it doesn't mean he'll successfully transition from 4th line center to 2nd line center, especially at 20 years old.

If Horvat is slotted into the 2nd line C spot and gets 43 points, would you consider that a success? Just curious.

Matt Beleskey would be a great signing for the Canucks...abrasive, gritty, 27 year old, goal scoring LW. $2.5M for Matt Beleskey? Unlikely to happen. Make a few moves to clear up cap space and he'd be worth going after -- 4 years @ $4.5M AAV. If I'm Jim Bean, I'd gladly move Burrows to make room for a player like Beleskey.

Baertschi will not get the Horvat treatment. Playing in the bottom 6 is a terrible way to develop skilled wingers (see Nicklas Jensen), likely the reason why Baer has spent so much time in the AHL is so that when he transitions he will transition into a Top 6 NHL role, where he can learn to play the game at the highest level for producing offense.

Yes, because he would be playing shutdown as well. To put it into perspective, Ryan Kesler had 47 points this regular season, is he not one of the best two-way centers in the game?

Conversely Nick Bonino gets 39 points and does not bring a two-way game, putting a damper on his line as evident during playoffs.
