Ken Hitchcock to be relieved of HC duties this week

They were on the right track until they got J-Bo.

Bouwmeester thrived in St. Louis. He's not a defenceman you build your team around. He's a complimentary guy and slotting in as the #3 or #4 is what Jay Bouwmeester is. He's not a bad defenceman. He just got torched in Calgary due to his atrocious contract.

Really? Blues are a bunch of scrap pieces and always have been. There's no stars to build around there.

Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk are two of the best upcoming d-men in the league and they're just reaching their prime, or about to. Then you've got Tarasenko who has become a star in his own right and will continue to impress. I do agree with what you said, about the Blues players mostly being complimentary players instead of guys you build teams around, however the Blues as an organization, are just oozing with depth from top to bottom.

Pietrangelo is one of the best D-men in the league. And Shattenkirk and J-Bo are a fantastic #2 and #3. With Jackman, Michalek, and Gunnarsson filling the bottom-3, it's not a stretch to say that it is the best D-core in the league.

Then you have Tarasenko as the star forward, surrounded by a ton of quality top-6 talent - Backes, Steen, Schwartz, Stastny, Oshie, Berglund...

The pieces are all there. (Although, I think they'd be even better if they held on to Sobotka and forgot about Stastny...would have more room for Tarasenko's deal too.) It's far easier to try a new guy behind the bench than retool the whole team.

More like if they got rid of Ott and didn't sign Lehtera. Stastny was needed to help fill out their top six. Losing Sobotka didn't seem to hurt them too much but it definitely would have made their roster a lot more well-rounded.
