Sapper
Now I normally defend the RCMP as they have a hard thankless job. But reading the story below just boils my blood over political correctness gone mad. Surley the RCMP have the ability to use judgement and to tell the mother if this happens again further actions will occur? I could understand if the kid was alone running down the street. But really a 4 year old that while in the presence of his father - rips his clothes off to have a water fight with his brother? That's called life not crime.... yeshhh http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/b-c-father-shaken-and-upset-after-naked-4-year-old-son-prompts-police-visit-1.3052126 " Ian McIlwaine of Squamish, B.C., said his family is "shaken and very upset" after RCMP, responding to a complaint by neighbours, visited the family's home because his four-year-old son was playing in the yard naked. On Sunday, McIlwaine took advantage of the warm weather to wax his car outside his home, with his two sons, Tyler, and Conner, 6, playing nearby. "First hot day of spring, and they're itching to get outside after a long Canadian winter and first thing they want to do is have a water fight," he told The Early Edition's Rick Cluff. Tyler got his pants wet and McIlwaine told him to put on some shorts. Instead, the boy emerged from the house naked. "It was all what seemed to be harmless innocence. I felt like at four years old, he's still pure, he's still innocent," said McIlwaine. Police apologize for kids' fears Mcllwaine said he didn't hear anything from neighbours at the time. A few days later, he was in Kelowna, B.C., on business and his wife, Margita, called him in tears. The police were at the house for more than half an hour, telling her that there could be "further action" if the child is found outdoors naked again. Mcllwaine returned early from his trip and went to the detachment the next day. He was told police had to respond to the call because it involved a child. "The disturbing part of it was ... I had [previously had] a break-in in the middle of the day, with my wife and children inside the house eating lunch, and the RCMP had never even bothered to come — they said that they didn't have resources," he said. McIlwaine said his older son is now afraid of the police — fearing he and his brother could be taken away from their parents. The Squamish RCMP declined an interview, but provided a written statement from Staff Sgt. Brian Cumming. "I have spoken to Mrs. and Mr. McIlwaine, explained that we responded to a complaint from another citizen about their son being out on the street with no clothes on a few days earlier," it reads. "They did not feel this was handled well by the officers responding despite my explanations, and I offered an apology for the fact that they were not happy and felt their son was now afraid of the police." Down by the River
"They did not feel this was handled well by the officers responding despite my explanations, and I offered an apology for the fact that they were not happy and felt their son was now afraid of the police." So basically "I don't think what we did was wrong, but I'm sorry that I had to meet with you". Pretty pathetic 'apology' from the RCMP. More pathetic was that the neighbours felt that this was something that required them to phone the police.

Chalky
For the neighbours to report a naked 4 year old, they are either unstable or have built up issues with the family. The RCMP really did noting to help the situation either. Kind of a...cop out.

RUPERTKBD
Saw this on CBC this morning. The RCMP are compelled to respond to complaints, but the "further action" stuff is ridiculous and the officers in question deserve a public firing squad with water pistols, wielded by a dozen 4 year-olds on sugar highs. The neighbors who called them in the first place need to move to a place where bare skin is always covered up.... ....like northern Iraq, or Syria. Asshats. Tre Mac
I know these neighbour types. They pull up a chair next to thier window and peep thru thier closed blinds 24/7 with a phone in one hand and the police programmed on every speed dial. We had one in our building, she pulled the fire alarm cuz she saw smoke coming from my unit, it was a joint. She got fined by the FD then by strata. It was hilarious when the cop was giving her poop and she kept pointing at me. 'Lady, we dont have the time nor the resources to respond to simple marijuana consumption. You just pulled a fire alarm and we have three fire trucks sitting here.' Obviously these neighbours know who lives next door. They know its a family, probably sick of the noise of innocent children playing. They should be sued for deformation(or w/e law applies)
-DLC-
Police should be questioning those who view a 4 year old naked boy playing with water as anything worth noticing at all. The fact that they didn't smile and say "kids" with a giggle is concerning. What the hell is wrong with people? Get a life. And for the police to follow up as they did? What the hell is wrong with people?

Sapper
Alright somebody organize a flashmob of naked 4 year olds to hold a parade on that street. I was outside doing yardwork tonight and talking with my neighbour who is an elderly woman. She said the informant is lucky that it's not on our street - she would be more than happy to strip naked and play with the hose.... something about "if a 4 year olds butt is that scary wait till the see my 90 year old butt". Need the raging grannies to do a naked water fight in front of his house - ya all know if that neighbour wants something to complain about - let the grandparent brigade give them something to haunt them Picture it - 30 old grannies with their walkers and not a stich on dancing on the front lawn to the tune of "I like big butts". Almost bad enough to make me forget the canucks exit from the playoffs!!!
Offensive Threat
itching to get outside after a long Canadian winter Winter in Squamish? Yeah those 3 days of snow up to your ankle... RCMP are required to respond to the complaint. They did. The real problem here is the article itself. Talk about taking a non newsworthy story and making into a Shocking portrayal of Police run amok. The media doing their standard fear mongering.
