Just "how young" do you think the Canucks need to get next season?

we all know the Canucks need to get younger and faster but just "how young" is the healthy amount for both the Canucks success and player development.

Are we talking a full blown youth movement and guy this team of veterans?

Sedin-sedin-kassian

Baerschi-horvat-vrbata

Shinkaruk-bonino-hansen

Dorsett-xxxxx-virtanen

Or maybe 1-2 youngsters and continue a slow rebuild?

Or does it depend on who's ready?

Do we go the Calgary route and just have a litter of rookies and hope for the best?

Sedin, Sedin, Kassian

Baer, Bonino, Vrbata

Burrows, Horvat, Hansen

Higgins, Richardson/UFA/Prospect, Dorsett

Vey

Edler, PMD

Hamhuis, Tanev

Sbisa, UFA/Trade/Prospect (I'd love McQuaid)

It's only the Calgary route if it's successful. Otherwise it's the Edmonton route, and well... 10+ years of crapping the standings won't work in this city

Whoever's ready should play. Whoever isn't shouldn't. No use trying to force prospects into roles they can't handle. Lots of examples of guys having their development hampered by being rushed into the league. Luca Sbisa is one of them.

Hell, watch game 7 between Detroit and Tampa Bay. Nyquist, Tatar, Palat, Johnson, Killorn, Kucherov etc. all spent time in the AHL before making the jump, and even they weren't handed ice time right away.

If management really wants to improve the chances of long-term success, they'll be patient. Not overly patient, but patient enough to ensure nobody gets rushed into the league. And note that this is not the same thing as saying that the veterans are fine and they shouldn't be held accountable. I know of one person who might interpret my post this way.

Just bring the Comets roster to Van and the current Canucks roster can go back east. Seriously I would be happy if 1 or 2 other young guys made the team ( if they can take a roster spot from a regular). Benning will have to really lucky if he can get 1 or even 2 of the NTC guys to wave.If none wave the current team is going to look a lot like the team that lost in 6 to the flames.

There has to be a balance. Young players should be brought in to address areas of weakness on this team if they show not that they are already better overall players than the vet in that spot but that they have the skill needed to fill that role more effectively going forward. Then they need to be given the chance to grow into that role too.

A good example is Baertschi. He Is not a complete player yet but he has shown a much better ability to create offensive opportunities than Chris Higgins. He should be tried on the pp especially to see just what if anything he can add there. Compared to Higgins in that spot there is literally minimum downside.

Kassian with the Sedins is another example. Burrows is fine there but this season Kassian complemented the Sedins really well and the three seemed to bring out the best in each other. More aggressiveness from the Sedins to shoot and get the puck to the net and more commitment to physical play and net presence from Kassian. The most effective lines are built based on that kind of dynamic. The Sedins and Burrows cycles the puck well but have declined in terms of being able to consistently drive that aggressiveness to the net.

Both of the above examples also give Desjardins the opportunity to put Higgins and Burrows into proper roles that fit their current strengths and weaknesses.

Bringing I young players for the sake of it never works out well. But when core vets aren't getting the job done anyway you can afford to take a few more chances in that regard.

I would take Corrado or Clendening over Bieksa and use that cap space to get an upgrade to the offensive profile at the top end of the D. It comes down to not only the best player but the best fit for what the team needs.

I could handle some more years of losing if there is a positive direction. I have seen plenty of losing so more isn't going to change my mind about liking this team.

I'd say maybe bring in 1 forward & 2 of the dmen

On D - Clendening & Corrado I think can help / should be ready to play at the NHL level

Forward - 1 of Baerstch (sp), Jensen, Shinkaruk

If more are ready then go for more but at least this way some prospects can play and have some of their mistakes covered up by the veterans. Also this way should help prevent a losing like atmosphere from creeping in (much like the one in Edmonton).
