chillie
Call me nuts but here's some changes that I would like mgmt to do for next season. Assuming NTC's are waived. Higgins for second or third pick. Bieksa for third. Let Mathias walk or get a conditional third pick for his rights at the draft. Play Kassian with the twins or second line to assess his value. If he isn't up to scratch trade him at next year's deadline. If he's as good as a lot of people hope sign him next year before he becomes UFA. Move Horvat to second line and Bonino to third line. If that doesn' workk switch them back as necessary. Let weber walk. Decide whether Richardson is our #4 centre. If not try Mcann. Move Clendenning and Corrado into the lineup. Use our 23rd OA pick for a really good dman pick. Use the cap space now available to to sign the RFA's. Trade Markstrom to a team that needs an up and coming G Keep Lack and Miller so that Lack can transition to #1. Use picks and prospects to upgrade our D. Lineup looks like: Sedins Kassian Burrows Horvat Vrbata Baertchi (sorry about spelling) Bonino Hansen Kennins Richardson (?) Dorsett Vey Edler Tanev Hamuis Clendenning Sbisa Corrado Stanton This leaves one space on roster for a player from minors or prospect received in trade. hatedkid666
Why don't you have 7 rookies making the roster next year? Don't you know you're not supposed to be realistic here? In all seriousness this is exactly what I feel we need to do.
Brocklovich
I tend to agree, I do think Higgins would land a 2nd or 3rd from some possible contending club. Perfect fit for Higgins I think would be NYI he slides onto their 3rd line with Clutterbuck & Czikas (sp) and moves Martin down to the 4th line. Not sure they have they picks or will want to move a 2nd / 3rd considering they are without a first this year. Baerstchi (sp?) I think will be on the opening day roster but I am also thinking it maybe time for Jensen to either become a player for the Canucks or a potential chip in a trade. I'd like Richardson to come back, he is solid in the ring & a guy that can help mentor Bo (not that he needs a ton of mentoring) a bit more next year & he shouldn't cost too much cap wise. Not sure but if Matthias is a RFA I'd see what he is looking for money wise but I think it maybe a case of letting him walk as I doubt they get anything for being able to talk to him earlier (like the hamhuis situation a few years ago). Weber with the season he had maybe able to net a tweener prospect (obviously not a high end guy) or a late rounder (4th or 5th). Either way I think he doesn't return as both Clendening & Corrado should be playing on the big club. I'd like to see them do something with the goaltending, I do think Lack might be able to garner more of a return than either Markstrom or Miller even (although being free of the 6m would be a boost). As for some of the other forwards I think depending on where the team is at or around the deadline next year I can see guys like Vrbata, Kassian, possibly Hamhuis etc being moved. Crabcakes
Quibbles are with the back end. Benning loves Weber. He also wants to add grit which is why I think Bieksa stays. He won't waive, neither will Hamhuis imo. Edler - Tanev Hamhuis - Weber Sbisa - Bieksa Stanton - Clendening Corrado (1st up, doesn't have to clear waivers) Personally, I'm not happy with the 3rd pairing but this is what I think we're looking at for next year. Yeah, I tend to agree with your final paragraph. Barring a big acquisition (top pairing RH PMD with size), I think that's the group we see returning next season. Unless a good offer comes ahead of the draft on either Hanhuis or Bieksa (and they agree to waive). But assuming all those guys are back for the start of 2015-16, the main change I'd make is going back to Hamhuis-Bieksa and hoping we can run a fairly solid top-4 with them and Edler-Tanev. Then, I let camp and preseason sort out the final pairing. Give all the younger Ds a fair shot at those last two starting spots. And that means making Sbisa and Weber earn their roles and not being afraid to put them at #7 and #8 if the other guys (Corrado, Clendenning, etc.) look better. But I think that, if they are still here (and not traded), you have to give Hamhuis and Bieksa their best chance to succeed, and that means playing them together. I still think they can achieve similar success as a pairing to what we saw a couple years back. It's true that they didn't look especially good this year in their limited minutes together. But those struggles, at least in hindsight, seem to have been more percentage driven by an unsustainable opposition shooting%, while Hamhuis-Bieksa's underlyings actually remained quite decent (in terms of their WOWYs and events differentials). No reason not to assume they can be a solid second pairing again, if given enough minutes together to actually get into a groove. And the main payoff, beyond having a more stable top-4 (and no more "Sbieksa"), is that a solid year from Hamhuis-Bieksa means showcasing both players and building value for a potential sell-off of our expiring assets (while acquiring good futures in the process). And doing so while still remaining competitive through the season (which is management's M.O.).

Sadly, I agree that's likely what we end up with for personnel. If that's the case, I'd love to see the following pairings: Edler, Tanev Hamhuis, Bieksa Sbisa, Corrado Stanton, Weber/Clendening In this scenario, we run the top 4 more heavily and shelter that bottom pair a bit. If we can manage to get a "Green" but don't move either Hammer/Bieksa: Edler, Green Sbisa, Tanev Hamhuis/Bieksa Stanton, Weber/Corrado/Clendening In this scenario, we can run all 3 pairs pretty equally. Miller + would pretty much have to be gone to fit this under the cap though and we'd likely be dumping 2 of Weber/Clendening/Corrado for peanuts. I can't imagine the first (and more likely) scenario doing much for ticket sales though. (I also have my doubts WD will actually put those pairings out, instead continue rolling 3 pairs... aka: Sbieksa third pair). Fans here may be panicky and reactionary but they're certainly aware enough to see that that D-core, largely unchanged and ESPECIALLY in that (Sbieksa) deployment are simply not good enough. Hopefully management recognizes that... If I could waive a magic wand though... Edler, Green Sbisa/Hamhuis, Tanev Hamhuis/Sbisa, McQuaid Stanton, Weber/Corrado/Clendening
Nathancanuck
I pretty much agree on the OP. I like the Lineup, especially Kassian with the Sedins. They've shown that it works and it's time to give it a try (for more than a couple of games). I don't agree on Bieksa thogh, he's not going to waive and I want him to stay and retire as a Canuck.. I've got a question about Mathias: IF we make a qualifying offer (let's say 3 Million/ year) and he refuses to sign with us and then signs a 4 Million/year deal with another Team, aren't we going to get a compensation pick??? (or however it is called)

nergish
Something tells me there will be more of a shakeup than that... That looks like the same team as this year with a bit of the fat trimmed, which very well could be the case, but I think Benning will take the approach our last few GMs couldnt quite nail - shuffling the deck, key players included. I expect to see one or two big names going out and one or two big names coming in as well as an injection from our youth base.
Crabcakes
Sbisa Corrado might make a good pair.....Corrado plays a similar game to Tanev so he might settle Sbisa down.
