Nathancanuck
Finally, after reading here the last 2 years, i've decided to make my first post! I am from Germany, so there might be some spelling mistakes ect. I already want to apologyze for WARNING: it's gonna be a long post! This topic is about our Lineup for the rest of the Sedin-era and how competetive it is. So here we go! 2015/16 Sedin (35) Sedin (35) Kassian (24) Baertschi (23) Horvat (20) Hansen (29) Burrows (34) Bonino (27) Vrbata (35) Kenins (24) Vey (24) Dorsett (29) Gaunce (21) / McMillan (25) Cap: 37,8 Edler (29) Tanev (25) Bieksa (34) Ehrhoff (33) Sbisa (25) Corrado (22) Clendening (23) Stanton (26) Cap: 23,6 Miller (35) Lack (27) Cap: 8,1 (including Luuuu) Moves : Mathias, Richy, Higgy, Weber, Hammer, Markstrom for picks/walk Signings: Ehrhoff 1 yr@3 Clendening/Corrado/Stanton/Vey/Kenins/Baertschi all get a 1 year@1 contract to see what they can do. My prediction: Team is a bit younger and we have a weapon for the PP with Ehrhoff. Also we do have two second lines now instead of three third lines. All in all I think it will be a battle making the Playoffs and a first round exit.. 2016/17 Sedin (36) Sedin (36) Kassian (25) Baertschi (24) Horvat (21) Virtanen (20) Burrows (35) Bonino (28) Hansen (30) Kenins (24) Gaunce (22) Dorsett (30) McMillan (26) Cap: 37 Edler (30) Tanev (26) Sbisa (26) Clendening (24) Pedan (23) Corrado (23) Stanton (27) Cap: 18,6 Lack (28) UFA Backup Cap: 7,5 Moves : Get rid of Miller, if necessary buyout. Vrbata/Bieksa/Vey/Ehrhoff all walk. About 10 Million Cap Space now we could use for a Top 4 Dman and more forward depth. Signings : Kassian 3yrs@3,5 Baertschi 3 yrs@3 Kenins 2yrs@1,5 Lack 4yrs@4 Clendening 2yrs@1,5 Corrado 2yrs@1,5 UFA Backup 2yrs@ 2,5 My Prediction: Actually pretty similar to the 15/16 Season. Now it is going to be interesting! I believe that in the 2017/18 Season we might have a Team that can do some real damage. Some of our prospects have earned some experience, Sedins will take a second Line role and we got some cap for 1-2 big singings via Trade or UFA. Also Lack is now a solid #1 2017/18 Baertschi (25) Horvat (22) UFA/Trade@ 6 Million Cap Sedin (37) Sedin (37) Kassian (26) Shinkaruk (23) McCann (21) Virtanen (21) Burrows (36) Bonino (29) Hansen (31) Dorsett Kenins Gaunce... Cap: about 43 Edler (31) Tanev (27) Sbisa (27) UFA/Trade @ 5 Million Pedan (24) Corrado (24) Clendening (25) Stanton (28) Tryamkin? Cap: 23 Lack (29) UFA Backup/ Demko Cap: 7,5 What do you think about the Lineups? Do you think this team is competitive? In which of these 3 years do you think we got the best chance to go deep (or at least further than the first round)? What will happen after the Sedins? A complete rebuild or can we stay competitive? Lucky Day
I like your post, welcome, are you able to follow the team closely in Europe ?, do you have intentions on visiting Canada ? watching a playoff game in person is an incredible thrill... Its good to have an international audience. Your lines look good, Ehrhoff was at his best in a Canucks uniform.....as an athlete, there are teams and environments where one thrives, just like any sport or anything I else I suppose... I would like to see him back as well, I wonder if Pittsburgh will ``let him walk`` easily. Horvat is thriving, McCann and Baertschi need the same strong guidance and development. Keep it up NateCanuck
Nathancanuck
Thanks for your nice reply LuckyDay! Yeah I got GamecenterLive and I've watched every Game... mostly live, so the games start for me at 4 in the morning :D It's kinda tough to watch live and I feel a little crazy because of it, but it just has to be! Actually I've been to Nanaimo for 6 months in early 2009 as an International Student. This was the time when I started to follow the Canucks and still love them like on day 1! I would love to visit Canada again, especially B.C. because it's just beautiful and I really want to see a Canucks game live... which I was unable to do in 2009... On Topic: Yeah I think Ehrhoff would thrive again in this Environment and with the Sedins!
elvis15
A better post as your first than many make with their 100th or 1000th. Welcome. Easier said than done and I'm not sure it all works out that way though. Time will tell.
Crabcakes
Welcome, thoughtful post. Defense. Today in interviews, Benning spoke well of Weber so I doubt he will move him. This may jeopardise your plan to acquire Ehrhoff. I'm undecided on what might be done with Hamhuis and Bieksa. I think that it's likely that neither would waive their no trade clauses. Hamhuis has shown that he is still a good player and Team Canada thinks so too. This makes him more valuable to trade. Bieksa brings some much needed grit and there isn't a prospect with that grit who is ready. Bieksa's contract term is up the following year and I agree with you that Pedan may be ready to fill this role at that time. Forwards. I think that Hansen would be over his head in a top 6 role on a permanent basis. I think he should be switched with Vrbata. You have Kassian, Horvat, and Baertschi in top 6 positions. I think that ultimately they will reach these spots but since they are new to them, management may want somebody who can fill the role while they develop into the top 6 role. IMO Burrows could cover Kassian, Bonino covers Horvat and Higgins covers Baertschi. This could make Hansen the spare part and traded (although I like him a lot). If they can fit Richardson under the cap, I think they keep him which makes Vey the 13th and spare forward. Otherwise, something similar to what you have suggested. The way you are introducing the young players to the line up I think is according to Benning's plan. Specifics depend on how individuals develop. DownUndaCanuck
I like pretty much the way you see it, but a couple of changes. In 3 years time here's what I hope we look like: Baertschi - ? - Virtanen Jensen - Horvat - Shinkaruk Sedin - Sedin - Kassian Kenins - Gaunce - Hansen Of course that's provided that all our kids play unbelievably and become top-6 forwards which is doubtful. I'd still like a star UFA or 80 point centerman at that #1 spot so we can have a bit of depth though, maybe Cassels/McCann will be that guy? Edler - Tanev Hamhuis - Clendening Sbisa - Corrado If Clendening and Corrado are busts and don't work out as NHL defencemen, those right spots should be reserved for UFAs/trades Lack O'Connor (hopefully)
thejazz97
Is there a TL;DR version?

The way you are introducing the young players to the line up I think is according to Benning's plan. Specifics depend on how individuals develop. Yea I heard that too but I really hope he just wants to raise his value... I think Weber is a great guy but hes just not a NHL player and I think with Stanton in the Lineup we may have won the series... I absolutly agree on Hamhuis and Bieksa. I think Bieksa would never waive, so he stays and Im totally fine with that cause I just love him ( The Bieksa vs. Ben Eager fight was one of my very first Canucks games Ive watched). And Hamhuis has higher value and I think he might waive... I put Hansen with Horvat and Baertschi because hes a very good player defensively and could cover for Baertschi. Also has great chemistry with Bo. Kassian with the Sedins was awesome in my opinion, I think they complement each other very well. I would like to keep Richy too but I just doubt it will happen.. Also there is no clear second line, they should get about the same ice.time. But if you switch Vrbata and Hansen, this would be an amazing shut down line with Burr-Bonino-Hansen. Totally agree on your last sentence! P.S. I cant watch Higgy in the top 6 or PP anymore... I dont mind keeping him but I think hes the odd man out. A better post as your first than many make with their 100th or 1000th. Welcome. Easier said than done and I'm not sure it all works out that way though. Time will tell. Thanks a lot! Yeah I know. This is just a raw prediction. You could switch Virtanen and Baertschi or maybe Baertschi is a bust but Shinkaruk will be a first liner and so on I hope and think it will look similar though. I just dont think we will ever get that 1C and thats why Horvat gets the spot. I think we will continue to roll 3-4 lines in the future with no clear #1 line...and I like it. Opposition cant focus on one strong line (like Sedins in the past). When I saw Jensen last year I thought that he was great and that he would make the team but this year was bad and I dont really see him making the jump (didnt watch the Ahl games and I am not a huge stats fan but they are awful)... lets hope the best though! How strong do you think this 2017/18 team would be compared to 2017/18 teams in our Division? I kinda fear the Flames and the Oilers in the future.... oh well, its the Oilers (if they manage to spoil McDavid they should get banned from the NHL)
BI3KSA-
Good first post, and welcome to the forums! Its always nice to have international fans around here. As for your post, I think we have a decent chance each year in the future but its all essentially just speculation.
