ahf149
Meh don't really see much in him, Must have really impressed. Sign the subbs 83 points in 150 University games...and you dont see much in him? LOL
DeNiro
At the very worst he'll be Utica's third line center of the future as we start to transition more of our young guys to the big team.
Coconuts
Nice, I was wondering what we'd do with him.
VegasCanuck
Subban is a quicker passer and quicker skater than Tanev. And a full foot shorter! He'll never get slammed into the boards, he'll just skate between players legs! Seriously, would love to see them give him a chance, but depends on where the Canucks see him on depth chart. I think he's a strong kid, and he definitely comes from a family that seems to be built for hockey. Just wish we could get him even 1 inch taller. NuckleheadFan
OK? what about Subban and Griener! Why does Benning keep signing us grinders, seriously, because I don't see Joseph Labate ever being a top 6 in the NHL. JB said that he feels he will have Subban signed before the deadline. cuporbust
Did you see how bad his Wisconsin team was this year? Something like 11 freshmen and that resulted in I think 9 wins all year Yeah that may be a factor. To be honest never herd of the kid , but at first glance at stats doesn't look like a high impact signing. Who knows though.
Beary Sweet
Great signing! Time to sign Subban and other prospects next! Does anyone know whether we still have to sign Demko or not?
cuporbust
Subban is a midget dude. Highly unlikely he ever plays a game in the NHL. Let's see if anyone claims him when he re-enters the draft this summer. Didn't look out of place in pre season "dude". I beilive he even had a couple goals. 52 points in 63 games in the OHL as a d man gets attention , major junior or not. If u don't think he will get a shot with those offensive numbers at the OHL level, u are out to lunch.

Why does Benning keep signing us grinders, seriously, because I don't see Joseph Labate ever being a top 6 in the NHL. Wouldn't call a minus 17 rating in 35 games solid two way play In fact , his offensive numbers suck too so.......why is everyone exited ???? He's big??? Great. Just what this team needs. Another big fourth line grinder Did we not just have a great number of people on here b*tching about how Ferland made the Canucks his collective girlfriend all series? Grinders are people too y'know, they need love like anybody else...and there's a place on practically every NHL team for them too.
Sean Monahan
Great signing! Time to sign Subban and other prospects next! Does anyone know whether we still have to sign Demko or not? Demko remains unsigned (he wouldn't be eligible to play in the NCAA if he was signed) but was drafted just last year so I believe we still have 2 years before he can re-enter the draft, or in the case of college players I believe, until he can be signed as a free agent. If I'm wrong, can somebody please correct me?

Why does Benning keep signing us grinders, seriously, because I don't see Joseph Labate ever being a top 6 in the NHL. Joe LaBate: "Hey Mr. Benning, I'm eager to talk about a deal.." Jim Benning: "Not so fast Joe. I have to talk contract with Subban and get him to sign a deal before I can sign you." Joe LaBate: "Huh? Why can't we do a deal now?" Jim Benning: "Well, I'd like to, but there's some folks out there in our fan base who really want Subban signed, and I can't be seen to be wasting my time talking to a bottom-6 grinder like you. I can multi-task, and the organization also has the resources to handle several contract negotiations at the same time, but it's all about the image. Sorry." Joe LaBate: "Oh..." regards, G. This being said, I think he'd have an easier time of it in the NHL if he was about 6" taller and at least 25 lbs heavier. regards, G.
Gaudette Celly
Just wish we could get him even 1 inch taller. Subban is 1" shorter but 10lbs heavier than Kris Russell. At some point the hand-wringing needs to stop.
Herberts Vasiljevs
People need to stop comparing our D prospects to Krug. It's such a lazy caparison. Lmao. Good signing. He's been forgotten around here but he's a solid centre prospect. Excited to see what he does in Utica!
BBQ Sauce99
krug isnt that good his team didnt make playoffs Neither did the Kings, is Doughty not that good either..? He's better than our whole D core. Krug is better than most of our D other than Tanev/Edler.

Excited to see what he does in Utica! I look back at "Whitey" Stapleton who was a 5' 8" offensive d-man in a smaller player era. He was mostly paired up with Bill White who was one of the better defensive d-men of his time, and also a pretty big guy for that time, as well as being a fairly good skater. Do the Canucks have a Bill White to play along side of Subban? Perhaps Tryamkin, but is he mobile enough to compliment Subban? regards, G.
Dazzle
I would like to see what he can do at wing before I wrote him off completely. The Canucks converted similarly sized Scott Walker from D to forward successfully; Wendel Clark was also moved to forward by the Leafs due to size concerns. Granted, those guys were tough little amigos but like you say, Subban does have considerable skill. We'll see what happens, but come on, at his size, Jordan is a long shot. Torey Krug is similarly sized and is fine inside Boston's d-corps. P.K. Subban grew to a huge size too later after he was drafted. Maybe Jordan would do the same. Regardless, yes, he'll need conditioning. Yes, size could be a factor in him succeeding. But as of this moment, he's fresh off a really good season, especially after the draft. Things look very promising.
JamesB
As a 4th round pick Labate is a long shot to ever play in the NHL. (Only about 10% of 4th rounders play 100 or more NHL games and only about 20% even play 1 game.) Labate is big and has some skill. He is a lottery ticket. He will be doing well if he makes Utica next year and could easily end up in Kalamazoo as Utica looks to have a lot of good forwards again next year. (Dane Fox and Curtis Valk have a shot, and Cassels will almost certainly be there, in addition to the guys already there and some other guys coming out of junior.) Looking at the NHL Numbers website it looks to me like the Canucks are pretty close to the maximum number of guys under contract (which is 50, but guys still in junior do not count).
