Argon
Anyone else here collect? What turntable do you own? Any good lesser-known places to buy good albums? I've got a Technics sl-b2, and have mostly classic rock but looking to branch out into more funk and metal (hard to find)
tbone909
Beat Street Records on Hastings St. has a great selection of new and used records at great prices.
theminister
I've got a pretty serious collection of classic rock era vinyl. That music always sounds better in the original format to me.
Angry Goose
I just sold my Rega turntable to an audiophile- he seemed pretty happy about it. I've still got a huge credit at my local record store to use after I traded in 400+ CD's. Thinking about picking up some jazz records next with that. Ride the red Pony
Rega RP3 with ortofon red cartridge...to me it is the cartridge that makes all the difference in the world. Discogs...is good for online purchases. I agree with the minister... Analog will always rule...compression kills the music.

Dr.Strangelove
I don't collect per say but I've go all my parents old albums plus mine and my brothers. Some pretty good oldies Beatles ,rolling stones , CCR , Gordon Lightfoot ect. All in pretty good shape. I have a friend who is a hardcore collector of old albums we hit up most of the flea markets on the weekend looking for albums and stuff I collect. GLASSJAW
far too expensive-a-hobby for my taste. but Ditch Records in Victoria has a pretty decent selection.
-DLC-
I've got a pretty serious collection of classic rock era vinyl. That music always sounds better in the original format to me. Me too....quite so. I've stashed them away for my kids...my son is quite thrilled about that. He just told me he spent $500 on record store day....$50 for a limited edition QOTSA Like Clockwork. I'm glad that this tradition is being revived a bit...almost thought we were going to lose it for good.
DIBdaQUIB
Never left it though I do have a significant investment in a digital front-end, the overall experience and organic sound of my vinyl setup is hard to beat.Thorens TD 166 MK II with Sumiko Blue Point cartridge w/ Hagerman Bugle II phono pre amp. Deck is dampened for resonance and sits on a maple sand box and custom maple component stand. ...all makes absolutely wonderful music together.Kelowna has a great vinyl shop down near Prospera Place where the Rockets play. Tremendous selection and supporting products. Albums range fro $8.00 and upwards. Lots of new vinyl as well.London Drugs is actually carrying a pretty good selection of new releases and re-releases these days. Mostly priced $15- $30 i.e. Beatles White Album was $28. I believe...brand new on heavy vinyl. My youngest (26) is just getting into vinyl.Good luck and Enjoy the music.EDIT: As for Deb's comment about being revived...annual record sales in the states has gone from around 900K albums 10 years ago to over 9 million last year and it's climbing. Digital is convenient and if you spend a lot of money, it can sound good with its expanded dynamic range and lower noise floor but...you can get 90% of what digital does for a fraction of the price if you are wiling to fiddle with records/cleaners and setting up your rig right. stawns
I've got a couple hundred albums in my collection. Part of the fun for my gf or myself is that they have to be found at garage sales or in dollar bins. Quality isn't always great, but we don't care
Toni Zamboni
i used to buy tons of records online at various outlets including ebay, but serato cured that addiction....and my bank and my back couldn't be happier i have a pair of tech 1200's...but pioneer has a new line of decks you may wanna check out that are supposed to be pretty comparable: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/DJ/Turntable/PLX-1000
theminister
Since this is the right forum to do so... Recently came across a solo album from Gary Brooker, the lead singer of Procol Harum, called 'No More Fear Of Flying'...great album. Rough in parts but it's got a Buffet-esque quality to it. I recommend listening to it three times. You'll hear the quality.
Realtor Rod
Not to hijack, but I always wanted to DJ and mix my own beats and sounds. It goes back 20 years. I've dwnloaded apps, but I suck. I wish I could do it. I think I am very musically driven, but man do I suck at trying to make beats. Some of your collections on here sounds fantastic. The Bookie
~300 or so and growing. Lots of older rock, jazz and hip hop, plus some folk and bluegrass that got added to the collection when my gf moved in. Probably what I wind up playing most often is the weirder ambient 70s/80s electronic stuff (eg. Jean MIchel Jarre, The Orb etc). I don't really 'collect' for rarities or anything but my favorites are Neil Young's On The Beach (pretty rare since the original tapes were water damaged and it was never re-released ) and an original, mint condition of Tom Waits' Nighthawks At The Diner. Hey, since I'm visiting right now, anyone know if there's a decent record shop in Kamloops?
Svengali
I inherited a huge collection of jazz and classical albums. Still buy or receive vinyl once in a while. And I use the ol' retro Bang & Olufsen 7700, still sounds great despite being used and abused in studio workshops for many many years: (this pic will be lame and pointless to some, and will be pure vintage Scandinavian design porn to others)

Very nice set up Dib, would love to get an old Thorens for a second setup...my daughter is moving out in a few weeks and she is sad to be leaving the vinyl behind, so I am going to try and find her a decent platter before she goes.
