Pre 2001 Canucks Playoff Teams Question

Recommended Posts

1982?

I'm guessing you didn't watch that year?...the meltdown was in the officiating...then in the finals against the Islanders, I mean c'mon, King Richard stood on his head (literally at times) to get us to the finals and then Bossy happened. Hat-trick in the 1st game and 4 more over the next 3 games. Hardly a Canucks meltdown, more like being WAY overmatched against a dominant dynasty team.

1995, getting swept in the second round against Chicago. I don't know if you can call it a melt down though, because we were the underdogs, and three of those games were in OT. There weren't really any meltdowns before 2000 because the Canucks were always the underdog in the playoffs. If they advanced a round, it was always a big upset.

+1. I only said that because they lost in 4. And because I would be -15 years old at that point, so no. I didn't watch it.

Does anyone remember if the Canucks had any playoff series meltdowns before 2001 as badly as they have since?

What do you want to prove? The Vancouver Canucks: we suck since 2001?

In '93, we had 101 points and made it to the 2nd round, facing the Kings, who had 88 points. Definitely one we should have won. Granted, going against Gretzky didn't make it any easier.

I remember when we relied on Tanti and Sundstrom to carry the load offensively in the years post '82 cup run. to me it looks like a similar tweener years ie before '94 cup run as the twins have very little support offense wise.

Losing to this sad Flames team who were missing their top d-man is pretty high on the all-time playoff faildar. Esp. being up 3-0 in an elimination game.

Losing to Gretzky's Kings back in the day also sucked, but at the same time, they had Gretzky, not Gaudreau.

I DON'T KNOW! Why does everyone keep asking me all these difficult questions. I have too much going on... :picard:

93 was incredibly disappointing. For the first time ever the Canucks had a bona fide superstar in Pavel Bure, one of the best goalies in the game in Kirk McLean and there was real hope for the team. Gary Shuchuk's OT goal in game 5 was a dagger. Maybe the fans had too high of expectations for a team that let Igor Larionov walk in the off-season and was using Anatoli Semenov as the #1 center?

Towards the end of his rookie season Bure was almost a goal a game player with Larionov as his center. Bure scored 60 goals in '93 with Semenov as his center ... imagine what he might have done with Larionov feeding him the puck.

I was born in 79 and consider myself a big fan, but I forgot/just realized that we made it to the second round in 95, and were top seed and made it to the second round in 93.

My memories just have us as sucking balls as a kid, but I guess in 92/93 I couldn't watch every single game on tv.

Second round isn't too bad, but we sure are second round specialists. What a bizarre team we love.
