[Signing] Matt O'Connor signs 2 year deal with Sens

Recommended Posts

those that thought we would sign him...

We have other players to sign, and we are set in goal with Markstrom/Demko/Lack/Eriksson.

Getting Matt Oconnor means that we'll have an unnecessary log jam and it'll also take a spot away from other players. Good luck to him in Ottawa.

Getting Matt O'Conner would have made one of those goalies trade bait; something the Canucks need to reclaim some of theri draft picks.

But yeah, regardless of whether or not we have O'Conner, we're still pretty good for the future in terms of goaltending.

Makes more sense for him ... better opportunity in Ottawa to become a starter. With Hammond or Lehner gone and Anderson getting older, door is open for O'Connor as he would have to wait in Vancouver with potentially Lack or Markstrom and Demko in the midst.

Not like the Canucks haven't landed unsigned players...Burrows, Kenins, Tanev, Fox, Sautner. There are a lot of teams out there, Canucks can't beat all of them every single time.

Forgot about undrafted Eddie Lack that signed with the Canucks.

its a typical response to disappointment..you know the canucks where targeting him and you know they wanted him...you know the hype and you know when they say a player is soon going to decide there is excitement....lately can't remember how many real gems the canucks got that everyone gets excited about...burrows and kennins good players but no real excitement... lack and tanev turned out good... but what about the hawks landing a Russian star... you get my meaning when i say excitement..... its the letdown...but i do understand where your coming from and i am not ungrateful for the canucks and who they got...its all about the hype...and the let down...

SJ wants to get younger. Miller makes no sense for them. I could see them being interested in Lack.

The Canucks want to get younger too. Didn't stop them from signing him.

San Jose has too many big contracts right now to not at least try to compete.

Hammond won't be resigned.

I agree, he won't resign his position. They might re-sign him though.

Not sure why they wouldn't, they'll be looking to move one of the top 3 for other assets and start O'Connor in the AHL. Just dropping Hammond for nothing seems like a waste.

The thing is that we're likely losing Eriksson (to Sweden) and one of Lack/Markstrom, so there was a spot available for him.

Meh, AHL goaltending depth is probably one of the easiest, least expensive spots to fill. There are a lot of capable goalies out there.

really sick of other teams getting these players.... just am. Grats Sens.... hope he turns out to be gem...

Or, we're always one of the frontrunners, and we occasionally get one of the available UFAs.

Not to mention Hamhuis, Vrbata, Miller, etc.

We were handcuffed with only a few teams. Better them than Chicago. Use your brain.

Miller can make a list of 5 teams, his wife lives in California, San Jose will need a goalie if Niemi leaves... hmm

How is trading Kesler to Anaheim better than trading him to Chicago? Because you'really just tired of seeing Chicago win?

The fact is, if Benning really wants to trade Miller, or if Miller wants to leave, San Jose would be an ideal destination and with San Jose actually being a place he would waive to, it makes sense. Benning would not refuse to trade him because they'r in our division.

Because Chicago knew we were handcuffed and Anaheim made the best deal out of the available teams.

And it doesn't make sense because they would take our place in the playoffs with Miller and Benning knows that.

Keep Markstrom and trade Miller.

The way he's going for the Comets, he seems more likely to become a number 1 than Lack at this point.

Yeah, Markstrom's great in Utica, but he's pretty soft in the NHL...Canucks coaching staff had so much confidence in him they let him play 80 minutes though he dressed for over 20 games. At that rate Lack will play 70 games next season.

Trade Markstrom!
