peaches5
News flash... Canucks ARE contenders and Bonino is a great option at 1.9 million. Second in the pacific, whooped most of the elite teams this year. Nux4cup2016 Canucks are not contenders not without some major personnel changes. Ghostsof1915
Honestly I think Bonino, Sbsia, Vrbata, and Vey are stop gap solutions by Benning until the rest of our young forwards and D are ready to rock the NHL. McCann > Kesler?
Boudrias
We can watch how well Bonino stands up against the Russians. IMHO the Russians will slice & dice the Americans. Maybe it is the larger ice service but Bonino looks really slow out there.I thought the article was a tad optimistic. Bonino is not great in the FO%, lacks speed, lacks size andmost of all his finish in front of the net is lacking. This does not mean he cannot improve but he is not a 2C which then makes me wonder where he fits long term.
FireGillis
Horvat has already surpassed Bonino as the best 2nd C on this team.

Nux4cup2016 I'm all for your unwavering enthusiasm regarding the team but don't be smarmy with people who have what are probably more realistic views on the team- that is, the Canucks are a good-but-not-great team that can make the playoffs and should compete but aren't going to win a cup without some serious luck and hot streaks. 2SKATES1STICK
I certainly try. A fractured/broken arm will be ready to go by Oct. Not even remotely worried. If this is mid season or if Bonino is more than a 3rd line center masquerading as a 2nd line center and putting up consistent numbers than I am worried. As it is...meh, he's an RFA and a middle 6 Center and will be ready to go by pre-season. Also hurts the US chances at the worlds. So hardly concerned. he has 2 years left
TheHitman
I'd think next year the Canucks would try to move Bonino to the wing on the second line with Horvat in the middle and maybe Vrbata on the other wing. Now, it's hard to tell whether or not Matthias will be a Canuck next year or who gets traded on draft day, but Cassels is looking a lot like the next Horvat right now so maybe sticking him in where Horvat was this season would be the best move. Putting Sven with two good two-way players would probably suit him best also. Crabcakes
^^^Hitman Cole Cassels just turned 20 and is listed at 6'0" 178. He may have a mean streak but he isn't built like Bo Horvat or Jake Virtanen. Give the boy a chance to develop, he's only a kid.

No 2nd in the pacific shows they are a competitor. It's very simple if you watch all 82 games. Teams don't get lucky over an 82 game span. Top 2 in each division are competitors. We're a solid team, I'm happy we made the playoffs, and I'm even happier with the new management team. But to say we're contenders is ludicrous. Time Lord
Horvat has already surpassed Bonino as the best 2nd C on this team. No, you're wrong. Stats say otherwise. Everyone with hockey knowledge knows you're wrong. Bonino produced like an average 2nd liner playing against the toughest competition on the whole team. Horvat produced like a third liner playing easy minutes against other 4th liners and 3rd defense pairings. Nothing against Horvat, but he's immensely overrated by some people. Time Lord
Here's an update - we got murdered in the Kessler trade Do you even post about anything else? By the way, that's just your opinion. So stop saying it like it's a fact. Kesler is still a bit better than Bonino (yes, only a bit, look at stats if you don't believe me) but remember we got McCann in the trade, and Sbisa still has a chance of improving. Realistically, the winner of the trade kinda hinges on the outcome of Mccann but typically the team that acquires the best player is the winner of the trade. That being said, JB did a pretty dam good job considering the way Kesler's NTC demands handcuffed him. Anaheim was the only destination he gave that could realistically acquire him. Crabcakes
Agree. Time and again when you see one player traded for a package, most if not all of the package is a bust. At least with the Kesler trade, we have 2 players who are playing. Neither are exactly what we had hoped for but Bonino does well defensively and has some moments offensively. He's really a defensive specialist. Sbisa, might be a bottom pairing guy and he was overpaid early in his career. McCann, was a fortunate pick up so deep in the draft. Time will tell. Horvat played a good part of the season facing off against the other teams 1C (Toews, Thornton, Getzlaf etc). He didn't just play, he was winning draws and helping burn those minutes so the Sedins could come on with a favourable matchup. Horvat is not overrated. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as 2C with PP time this coming year. He will have to earn it with a good off season and early season effort.
