grouette10
With Ron francis stating he's willing to move that 5th overall pick and needing a goalie with Cam Ward moving as a UFA id love to see, TO VAN: 5th overall pick (Mitchell Marner) TO CAR: 23rd overall pick Eddie Lack Hunter Shinkaruk Chris Higgins WHY VAN DOES THIS: In receiving Marner, the Canucks gain a bluechip playmaking 1C for the future when the sedins retire. Imagine Marner setting up Virtanen along side of Baertschi, that would be unbelievably fun to watch for many years to come. WHY CAR DOES THIS: Carolina gains the 23rd overall pick in a deep draft, a great fit in Eddie Lack who is approaching his prime and would relieve the log jam of goalies for us (as much as I love Eddie he's the most likely to get traded), Hunter Shinkaruk who would hurt to give up because he looks like a very promising top 6 NHL'er after the end to his season, but you've got to give up a lot for a top 10 pick in this draft, let alone a top 5. Finally, Chris Higgins who is enticing because he is signed to a very reasonable contract to bring a veteran presence to that young core and play in a bottom 6 role in Carolina. What do you guys think? I believe its pretty reasonable on both sides.

Nuxfanabroad
Both ways there are reasons something like this could fly. Funny, don't remember much trade-history with these 2 franchises.. Was it Keenan getting Sean Burke for a short time?(dark days, late-90's)
Master Mind
We'd have to add more IMO, but I would love for us to get Marner. Carolina would also need to move Ward if they're going to bring in Lack.

They've no genuine use for Shink or Higgins. They need players 22-25 ready to play now
grouette10
@thejazz97 Haha thats true especially with Cassels looking pretty promising now along side Horvat and McCann. But with Marner he has the potential to become a true 1C opposed to not necessarily knowing what the ceiling is for our other guys like McCann. Can McCann become a future 1st line centre? sure but he could also become a middle 2C or 3C. only time will tell.
Skirbs11
I think we would have to add another piece. That being said i would not draft Marner. We have Horvat, Gaunce, McCann and Cassels as young forward prospects. IMO we lack in Prospects on the wing beyond Virtanen and Beartschi I would rather use the pick and Draft Lawson Crouse or instead of the 5th pick move down to about the 8th and get Timo Meier
Junkyard Dog
CAR doesn't really need goalies. Ward had a great year considering how bad the Canes were and they also have Khudobin.

Phil_314
http://www.tsn.ca/off-season-game-plan-carolina-hurricanes-1.276002 Just think on that. They've no genuine use for Shink or Higgins. They need players 22-25 ready to play now I'd put Vey and Jensen in their place. Both are young and still on their career upswings, and should be able to find Top-9 if not Top-6 roles with the somewhat-rebuilding Canes who'll give opportunities to their kids. Heck, either of them could end up as the 2nd line R.W. with a strong preseason. As for prospect selection, I'm honestly not sure (a strong offensive center would be good, but if there's a puck-moving D-man like Kylington or Hanifin still around I think we should go for either of those). Gretzky to Lemieux
I think if it was Mccann instead of Shinkaruk then they would accept. Marner will probably be better then Mccann and we need some young top 6 wingers (Shinkaruk)

Baer.
I'm down for that trade. So many options at 5th. Doubt Carolina would do it tho
Skirbs11
Marner can play RW Marner 5'10 164 pounds Crouse 6'3 200 pounds Meier 6'1 205 pounds We have Beartschi, Vey, Kennins, Hansen, Higgins as relatively small forwards why do we need to add another small forward?? We get pushed around every game might be nice to have a Kassian and Crouse on a line with Horvat and have some decent size for once
shazzam
For them to trade that pick they would probably want a young forward that can slot into their top 6 +. Got to think quality over quantity when you move such a high pick. If we had that pick, would you accept that deal? no way in hell
ManUtd
Doubt the Canes accept. It's going to take more than a good young goalie one year from UFA status, a 3rd liner, and a decent prospect to move from 23rd to 5. For a point of reference, Toronto fans turned down 10th + ROR for 4th. Even if we say that Lack + Higgins + Shinkaruk > 1 year of ROR that still doesn't come close to the difference between 10th and 23rd (even accounting for the difference between 4 and 5). 70seven
Crouse isnt the most skilled top 10pick, but I honestly think hed fit in amazingly to the next gen identity. Baertschi - Horvat - Kassian Virtanen - McCann - Shinkaruk Crouse - Cassels - Grenier Kennins - Gaunce -
D-Money
Carolina will totally trade that pick... ...for Horvat. That's the kind of deal GM's are looking for when they say they are open to moving their top-5 pick. Almost all the GM's say that - but how many picks actually get moved??? If the prices in any way favoured the teams asking, you'd see it a lot more often.
