[Signing] Canucks sign Jordan Subban

Why people are so excited about a small 4th round draft pick is beyond me. He won't be the player PK is.

Has anyone ever compared the 2? Ones an elite talent all around, 1 could be a PP specialist with 5/6th role.

I'd be happy to see him turn out like Sami Vatanen from the Ducks. He is listed as 5'10 and 180 lbs. He was drafted in the 4th round just like Subban (Sami was 106th overall, Subban 115th overall).

Sami Vatanen has played 3 seasons for the Ducks, 8 games in his first season (2 goals no assist), second season was 48 games (6 goals, 15 assists), 67 games this season (12 goals, 25 assists). Not to mention his 2 goals, 5 assists in 9 playoff games this year.

I like that Jordan is a lottery ticket. He can be a bust but he can also become sensational if his game carries over to the NHL. And that's what we need right now. Lottery tickets who could pay off huge. I'd take that gamble. Happy to see how he progresses here.

I have a problem with this signing.

Benning clearly stated that he would sign Subban at some time over the summer, and here we are, weeks away from the official start of summer and Benning has signed Subban.

WTH!?

How can we trust what JB has to say if he can't keep to his own timetables? If he promises that the Canucks will win the Cup in five years does that mean that they will win it in three? What a freaking nerve. And top of this, we lose a couple of weeks of various posters whining about Subban not being signed. They deserve their time in the sun promoting concerns over their pet issues.

regards,

G.

Ignorant posts like these remind me why I no longer post here. Kris Russell is only 5'10, I don't think there is anyone on here that wouldn't want him on our team.

A bit of irony to start your post. :)

Subban's size is no guarantee that he won't make the NHL. This being said, just because there are a number of other small, talented players in the league is no guarantee that Subban will make it. To me, suggesting that Subban will make it because players like Krug et al proved that a small guy can make it is like saying that Andrew Ebbett is the next Martin St. Louis.

There are lots of very skilled young players who have had a good junior career, who are drafted every year (ignore size). How many of them make it? In most cases they can't transition their game to meet the expectations placed on them at the NHL level.

If Subban makes it, I'll be happy for him. If he doesn't make it here than maybe he will make it somewhere else. I'm willing to see how things develop

regards,

G.
