[Thought] Canucks should target the 7th and/or 8th picks

Recommended Posts

whys tanev untouchable hes signed long term to a decent contract not sure why tanev is so overrated on here he has no offense. and what did he do in playoffs not much. At least edler is offensive in my eyes tanev and hamhuis can be traded

hamhuis and tanev and vrbata miller to highest bidders

higgins, hansen, richardson, mattias for picks

jensen ericksonn can be packaged

could get us even more pieces

pilon, zacha, andersson, rantanen would be players id target

The only reason Edler played half decent is because he had Tanev babysitting him covering up his mistakes....Tanev is our most consistent Dman we have. As an Org we dont expect Tanev to score or put up points thats not his job, he is valuable in his defensive play and consistency

Take Tanev and Hamhuis out of the lineup Edler, Sbisa and Bieksa as your top 3 Dman???? any team we play scores minimum 5 goals a game

Edler is way better than you think. You only focus on mistakes rather than all the positive things he does, which by far outweigh his occasional mistakes. He's a strong 200ft player. Tanev is more of a specialist- defensive D man that can move the puck out of the D zone quickly.

Edler goes from being -39 in 2013-2014 to being +13 in 2014-2015 playing alongside Tanev for the full year so yes its quite obvious that with Tanev Babysitting Edler he played much beter

I'd move Virtanen straight across for on of the 7th/8th picks. It doesn't seem as though Virtanen made any huge strides this year. Not that I'm giving up on him or anything, but I think that getting a true 1/2 D prospect is more important to the team then what Virtanen brings.

Just my two cents.

I like these ideas but I think you're over valuing Alex Edler. He's a good d man but I don't know if I'd call him top paring. I think he's a strong #3 on average who can play like a weak #1 at times.

I'm not sure he's worth a #7 or #8 pick straight up, not to mention an additional pick and prospect.

If we could get that kind of package for him, and have him waive his no trade, I'd dance like no one has ever danced before.

Edler is definitely a top pairing defenseman. Not elite, not norris calibre, but somewhere between a fringe 1st and a solid 2nd.

Edler is the complete package. Two way ability, size, a booming shot and hits like a truck. Here are defenseman who I would say are are clearly at or above Edler's level..

Karlsson

Burns

Subban

Josi

Giordano

Carlson

Letang

Yandle

Markov

Faulk

Doughty

Pietrangelo

Byfuglien

Weber

Keith

Kronwall

Ekman - Larsson

Brodie

Muzzin

Ekblad

Hedman

Suter

McDonagh

Goligoski

Seabrook

Myers

Chara

Boychuk

Hamilton

Vlasic

With those players ahead Edler is about 31st on the list. Myers, Goligoski, Muzzin, Vlasic, Hamilton, Boychuck, and an aging Chara are arguably around the same, which would put loosely at around 24-31 in the league. Also consider Winnipeg, Montreal, Nashville, Chicago, New York, Boston, Calgary, LA, and San Jose all have two players on the list.

Edler would be a number #1 dman on Anaheim, Buffalo, Colorado, CBJ, Edmonton, New Jersey, Philly, (Vancouver), and Toronto.

The only teams he would be a clear-cut second pairing would be Nashville, Chicago, New York, and Montreal.

inb4 the critics..

I'd very much like Provorov. But not for Virtanen straight up. We'd be better off to package other players such as Jensen/2015 1st round pick/Zack Kassian. Ha, I don't think even that will be enough but it's a start.

I'd jump off a tree if we get either Provorov/Rantanen.

Prepare to stay put. Top ten trades almost never happen
