Coyotes' survival hinges on arena deal battle

agreed. I think AZ will become the new LV team and KC will get an expansion (or vice versa). Then SEA will get it's own expansion shortly thereafter.

They could move Florida, Glendale, and Tampa Bay for all I care. What a joke this Glendale thing is, each and every year, more and more comes out. Bleeding Ca$h, great job Gary, this sunbelt thing is a great idea.

Just get them out of there. I don't understand why the NHL cannot admit failure here. Move them to Seattle, Quebec, wherever

It's about TV coverage.

The NHL NEEDED have a presence in that market in order to sign the billion dollar american TV deal the currently have, whether they have to maintain the team to keep the deal I have no idea, but that's what the whole thing has been about.

The sad part is PHO isn't really that bad of a place for an NHL team, had they kept the arena central, convenient to other destinations and a place where people could go games then go party at the usual places without having to drive, the COYOTES would have been fine, they did alright in their old arena.

Most people blame the Arizona market and totally ignore that albatross of an arena they were stuck with, I doubt an NBA team would have done all that much better with that place.

Look no further then OTT to see what happens when arenas are built way out in B.F. The team has one bad bad game and you find yourself asking "I drove all the out here for this crap?!" then they never come back.

The person responsible for this is the person who picked the location, and whatever idiot thought it would work

They were a failure in downtown Phoenix too.

Just accept the fact that hockey in Phoenix does not work. As far as the TV market argument goes does it really matter how big the TV market is if only 23 people are watching the product?

It's about national potential coverage not local ratings, and I don't make the rules either, you wanted a reason for the team and I gave it to you,

I'm not so sure about having been a failure in their first arena, I was watching then and I don't recall any embarrassing crowds, I remember reasonably full billings and enthusiastic fans, none of this stuff was an issue until they moved to Glendale.

They've been a losing money franchise since the move from Winnipeg.

Downtown didn't help, new arena didn't help, yes the location is bad but they weren't selling out in downtown phoenix either.

The sooner they move the better, Phoenix was a terrible idea from the start.
