[Report] Nick Foligno named Blue Jackets' Captain

poor johansen

The star player doesn't always equal captain material. Can you imagine Kessel being the captain in Toronto? Kane being captain in Chicago? Huberdeau in Florida?

Foligno is their character guy and is a good choice for Captain.

I am not sold on Foligno at all.

The guy doubles his point output from the previous season in a contract year. Shocker.

Is anyone going to be surprised next season if he reverts back to a 15 goal scorer? I am not hoping for failure for him but if he wasn't Canadian, I bet many people wouldn't be so positive.

There's a huge chance he regresses this coming season. Still though, if you watch him play and watch his interviews, it's very hard not to like him. I think it's a great move on CBJ's part.

You don't make a guy captain because of his point totals, or at least you shouldn't. If he's the best leader they have, then he's their captain.

Dirk Graham only managed one season with significant offensive output, and was basically a 40-50+ point guy the rest of his career, but he was the Blackhawks captain for several years.

Right. Optically though, it looks like the choice was made because he had his best season to date. For all we know, the team voted him because everyone likes him and has more to do with him being a glue guy than someone who can produce.

Don't like having your big scorers as captain. Didn't like it with Naslund or Hank, they have enough to worry about and already attract enough press that they don't need to add more duties.

RJ seems a little to immature and likes to shoot from the hip too much.

Not questioning the Foligno captaincy but why would you do this now, weird timing. Lost in the news cycle, with Babcock, Sweeney, Hammond ... and oh yeah the playoffs. Unless it is part of the seasons tickets push or part of contract negotiations like the stupid Luongo captaincy. Why you not wait till at least camp? You never know a great trade offer could be made. Waiting to camp makes it look more like he grabbed the captaincy instead of having it gifted to him.

I don't think he is Canadian. But people do seem positive about him.
