DownUndaCanuck
Sign Ward. Kassian's suddenly expendable. Kassian + 1st to Pittsburgh for Derreck Pouliot or to Boston for Joe Morrow. Essentially we upgrade our 1st round pick for a young top-4 defenceman who's ready to play in the NHL when Hamhuis and Bieksa are let go. Perfect, smooth transition. Goat James
Wow, Ward is much older than I thought, he was born in '80, the same year the Sedins were. We don't really need him, but a team like the Oilers could use him for a couple of seasons.
2SKATES1STICK
we don't have the room for him...literally. he's a big guy and our locker room is already crowded as it is need renovations
Guest
He was expensive when he signed for Washington, CDC was apoplectic at the price I recall. He'll be no less expensive now but with the likes of Dorsett, Hansen and Higgins already on similar money, there's no way we can sign him without moving bodies. If the Pens wouldn't give up Pouliot for Kesler, they aren't giving him up for Kassian; especially since the Pens need D
aGENT
There's no way that Higgins is a more useful player than Ward. You're not taking in to account the contract and cap hit. Even if they were equal the quality difference between Higgins and Ward is far from night and day.
LeanBeef
Ward is a very slight upgrade over Higgins, but Higgins has a great caphit and I would expect Ward to get overpaid. I dont think he's worth it.

Coconuts
Too old and he'll likely want too much, no thanks. I'd rather go the youth route or nab someone younger/faster if possible.
Canuck Surfer
Ward would be a good addition to any team. But what our team needs is an investment in our talent on D!

Even if they were equal the quality difference between Higgins and Ward is far from night and day.Not saying night and day. Ward is a clutch playoff performer who has proven himself. Higgins is a decent defensive forward who disappears for long stretches of time during the regular season and was a complete non factor for this team in the playoffs. Tom Sestito
I'm a fan of Joel Ward. Problem is not age or talent, but the fact that we don't need more veterans and also that some team will pay him more than 3.7 million, when he shouldn't be anything more than a third liner. So no thank you.
