avelanch
Please note, this is not pronounced Over-Age, it's Overage. Like the overage charges you get to talking more minutes than your cell plan provides. o·ver·age1 ˈōv(ə)rij/ noun an excess or surplus, especially the amount by which a sum of money is greater than a previous estimate. Players who are 20 years of age as of the beginning of their CHL season are considered to be playing in their Overage season. This is their absolute last year that they are eligible to play in the CHL, and teams are only allowed 3 players playing in their overage season per team. A player is typically drafted after the season in which they are 17 as of the beginning of the year (their Draft season), though some are drafted later. The year after their first draft eligibility is considered their draft+1 season. They are not considered Overage in their Draft+2 season (when they are 19 before the season begins). Very few players ever play in their overage (Draft+3) season in the CHL, because most are sent to/join the AHL instead. For example, Dane Fox, when we acquired him, was in his Overage season; Cole cassels is not currently in his Overage season. There is no such thing as an Over-age season. for someone to be Over-aged they would need to be 21 as of the beginning of the season, which is not allowed in the CHL, as the rules specifically state that players must be aged 16-20 at the start of the season (with special exceptions being made for exceptional players to start at 15) Hope this clears up this issue. Chalky
Overage vs Over-age. The over-age player is the old guy wearing a crooked hat at the club, wondering why all the girls are ignoring him. Not to be confused with the Sugar Daddy

baumerman77
I don't understand why the pronunciation is relevant or for that matter why this thread is relevant.
avelanch
the pronounciation is relevant because the mispronunciation leads to the misunderstanding. and it's relevant because WAY too many posters here and elsewhere improperly use the term Overage players for players like cole, who is playing in his Draft +2 season, and is not in his overage year. C.Schneider
While you're schooling the kids on mis-used terms, you should do one on "literally" as well. I don't think 95% of the people know how to use "literally" in the proper context. They believe it's a throw-on word to emphasize a statement, which is not. baumerman77
the pronounciation is relevant because the mispronunciation leads to the misunderstanding. and it's relevant because WAY too many posters here and elsewhere improperly use the term Overage players for players like cole, who is playing in his Draft +2 season, and is not in his overage year. I don't think anyone pronounces it that way. It is commonly pronounced over-age because the league is a 16-20 year old league. Regardless I really don't think the pronunciation matters at all. But I do agree that it is best to use: Draft -1, Draft season, Draft +1, Draft +2, and Draft +3 when alluding to CHL players.
