Best six man lineup of all time (not just active players)

Recommended Posts

So, instead of doing this with just active players I was thinking, what would the best six man lineup be if you could combine all players who've ever played the game be?

Mine would look something like this:

Mario Lemieux - Wayne Gretzky - Brett Hull

Bobby Orr - Nicklas Lidström

Dominik Hasek

Hard to argue those other than Hull. Can think of a few I would prefer.

Would probably say Gordie Howe on right, could use some toughness as Orr is the only one in that list with any.

A few guys I am too young to appreciate including Richard, Lafleur, Bobby Hull ( not his D Bag son).

Best full lineup would be:

Mario Lemieux-Wayne Gretzky-Mike Bossy

Maurice Richard-Sidney Crosby-Jaromir Jagr

Bobby Hull

Bobby Orr-Paul Coffey

Larry Robinson-Nicklas Lidstrom

Ray Bourque-Doug Harvey

The thing is that Hull is one of the best goal scorers ever, but Mr. Hockey might fit better. I see him fitting in better and better the more I think about it...

...and he's far from tough. Sanderson ate him for lunch in the first Bruins camp. I'd go with

Lemieux, Gretzky, Bossy

Orr, Potvin

What are you talking about? Orr was super tough? Cherry always said that he was the toughest and most skilled player on the team.

Newsy Lalonde? Guy was born in 1887!! How much research did that take?

Edit: Played for the millionaires for one season and had 27 goals and no assists in 15 games.

Just realized I forgot Howie Morenz.

It didn't take much research, I've had an interest in the early days of hockey for some time. But guys like Newsy, Joe Malone (best hockey player of all time IMO), and Cy Denneny were the Crosbys and Ovechkins of their day.

1 goal in his last 20 NHL games. Kind of hard to say since careers only lasted 100-200 games back then, but nobody was better or will be as good as The Great One.

True, but he had 206 points in 123 NHA games (1.67 PPG) and then 175 points in 126 NHL games (1.39 PPG) for 381 points in 269 games (1.42 PPG). I agree that that's no Gretzky stat line, but an influx of European goalies to the NA game definitely helped the Great One.

Uhhhh, no he wasn't. O'reilly, Cashman, Doak, Schmautz, were a bit tougher than Orr. Most skilled by far, not even close in the tough dept.

I do not recall Bobby Orr losing a fight. He could still beat a guy with two linesmen trying to hold him.

Watch some of his fights on Youtube. He was a beast and never backed down. My opinion only though.

IMHO, next in line and pound for pound, our own Rick Rypien. Big or small, it did not matter to him, the other guy did all the bleeding. RIP Rick, still wish you were with us buddy.
