not asking who will get a regular NHL roster spot first, but who will make the biggest impact first. With the emergence of guys like Cole Cassels , McCann, and markstrom this year , it's making it hard to decide who is our best prospect imo. A great problem to have.

Interesting question. Have to go with Baertschi as he is the one guy who is pretty much guaranteed to actually be in the NHL next year. And he has been excellent ever since being traded to the Canucks organization so I expect him to do well.

Markstrom should also be in the NHL next year. The other guys will probably be back in Junior or in the minors, although I agree that Virtanen and Cassels have an outside chance of making the big team.

I'm thinking markstrom or Cassels. Cole is quickly making himself valuable. The thing with Cassels is he can be valuable in a bottom six role. Sven has to thrive in a top six role to be of the same value because he doesn't have the defensive skills , or faceoff skills ( not a centre ) that Cole brings. I think Cassels has a better chance at being more of an impact player next year. It's a tough call though I agree

My definition of impact is production, not a big hit.

So, Baertschi. Baertschi is waiver exposed, and needs a top six role to be successful. He is ready. If he belongs, he will show it next year.

Well, that's why I'm not so sure. He is not useful unless he's on fire in a top six role. I'm still not sold he's going to do that. Not saying he won't , he very well may, but I wouldn't say it's a slam dunk.

If Cassels makes the team , he has a better chance at making more of an overall impact , being that we are more of a 4 line team. Guess only time will tell. To be honest , we don't even know who may be staying or going. It may open up some spots for these kids. I'd say there is a good chance Cassels gets a shot

Even in point production, what would you qualify as "big impact"?
For Top-6 F's are we saying that they put up ~0.5 p.p.g.?

Reason I ask is that people on here still undervalue Higgins and Burr despite their near-0.5 p.p.g. seasons.
I've read that the standard for top-6 F points is around 0.4(?) p.p.g. so 0.5 is already top-6.
However, CDC still values those two as being elite Top-9 but not Top-6.

Anyways, I get that Sven's probably the closest to having a spot (given or earned) among the guys listed, but IF Willie gives him the offensive minutes and role then he has the greatest potential to make an impact first. That said, my dark horse would be Clendening given more all-round potential and readiness to meet needs.

Our D-group needs help and he's what Trader Jim received for dealing Forsling. Hope Willie gives him more PP time and he just might be the needed offensive catalyst that the team needs. What's more, if J.B. convinces Juice to leave there's a Top-4 hole that could be earned by either Adam or Corrado Kid, and I hope Willie gives it to Clendening to develop into an all-round D-man with offensive contributions.

Though he wasn't ready Adam logged near 20 min. on several occasions and with more seasoning like this Utica post-season run, I think he could have a breakthrough.

Statistically Sven B has the best chance. He'll be on the cusp of 40 points next year. If Cassels makes the NHL next year I can see him having 25 points, but he's going to have to take some big steps to get there.

Virtanen would be great to see, but I don't think he puts up big numbers on the 4th line, so depending on who get's traded I would say Grenier would be my next best guess. also being around 25 points in a full NHL season.

Yeah I suppose I should add him too.

Added ;)
