Canucks Curse
Purely speculation off a question asking if Franson would even consider coming here. It's a moot point though considering Benning has said he isn't going to be looking for expensive D free agents ("we wont be in the high end of the market, the $5 million or $6 million guys") and Franson clearly ("I want to play in roles that make me earn the money we are going to be asking for...") isn't going to come cheap. Yeah I know he said that- seriously what is he thinking? He wants keep miller, Bieksa and hammer, sign Sbisa and take himself if the UFA market. I am calling it now, we see very little done at the draft and come October we will all be disappointed. I had faith in Gillis early on then he went full retard, I had faith in Benning early on and now he is going full retard- Kesler trade, vey trade, Sbisa (my problem is he was signed way too early) Dorsett (great guy but that's big money) Miller signing (where was the competition from other teams six freakin mill!!! 3rd highest paid guy on team and we would be better off without him) The only thing worse would be not trading miller and I seriously doubt he will
DownUndaCanuck
The Canucks produced one of the least amounts of offence last regular season from the blueline. Edler only hit 30+ points because of 6 points in the last few games against rubbish bottom-feeders. We have 4 true shutdown defencemen (Tanev, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Sbisa), one good all-rounder defenceman (Edler) and one puck-mover who really should be in the AHL (Weber). This team still lacks a puck-moving defenceman. We never replaced Salo or Ehrhoff when they departed, brought in Garrison who did a half-decent job on the powerplay but have now reverted to a 7th NHL man in Weber for our top powerplay specialist. What a joke. Franson is a proven puck moving defenceman who can rack up powerplay points. He's a right handed defenceman which is what our powerplay needs, he's a big body, he's still young at 27, has had a lot of success on Canadian teams so we know he can handle the pressure and best of all, he's got experience and chemistry playing with Dan Hamhuis. He'd be versatile too, being able to play up with Edler if we really want to press for a goal late in a game. Moreso, his stock is an all-time low right now after playing in a deep Nashville defence and not getting a good enough chance. With Vancouver, he'd slide in perfectly to our top-4. Edler - Tanev Hamhuis - Franson Sbisa - Clendening Stanton - Corrado Sign Franson for 2 years at 4M per. Somehow trade Bieksa for a pick. Let Weber walk. Suddenly we have a MUCH better-rounded defence with a puck moving defenceman and shutdown defenceman on each pairing.
mpt
As a powerplay specialist and offensive d-man, sure. Defensively, he's horrid. Pair him with Hamhuis, Dan deserves a better partner than Weber (no offense to Weber as he played better than expected)

tas
He would help out on our horrid PP... An Edler - Franson pairing on the 1st PP would be pretty solid. if the canucks' powerplay was horrid, what does that make the 22 powerplays around the league that were worse? Mr.Plow
Wouldn't mind signing Franson, he's relatively young. Give him a 5 year deal around 5 million but ensure there's no NTC.

Provost
It is promising to hear him talking about Vancouver by name, but it is certainly possible that he wants to open as many doors as possible to get the best deal possible. I think more likely we are looking at skipping the top tier of guys and going after the next rung down. I stated in another thread... Meszaros and McQuaid are definite possibilities. One if Bieksa or Hamhuis won't waive, both of them if we are able to trade one of them. I include Hamhuis on the possible trade front because he has more trade value, is also slowing down, and Tanev plays a similar game and is a lot younger. You can't have a lot of non-physical, non-offensive players in your defence.
BOHORVAT53
Instead of signing Miller, wish we had signed Stralman Does anyone know if both Corrado n Clendinning have to clear waivers 100% in October? Seems a little quick for young Corrado

Tom Sestito
Just in case he gets signed, and I criticize and everyone thinks I'm just being a hater.. I'll say it now I'm not a fan of franson. I wouldn't pay more than 3.5. He's not that good. I will laugh at any team that pays him more than 4.5.

Outsiders
OK well i would sign Franson unless we move Hamhuis for a 1st round pick + prospect Edler-Franson Sbisa-Tanev Corrado-Bieksa Or Without Franson Edler-Tanev Hamhuis-Corrado Sbisa-Bieksa
