[Proposal] Our best value in the upcoming Lack trade (SJ)

Recommended Posts

So I have to think that if JB is going to trade Lack for a 2nd round pick why not expand the confirmed trade to include more elements? The question becomes who is the most desperate to get a good quality young goalie like Lack? Edmonton? Carolina? Rangers? Naahhh, I think it's gotta be the Sharks.

So how about Lack, 2016 1st to San Jose for Hertl and a 2015 1st?? The only downside would be if we bombed next year we'd be handing a sweet pick to an enemy rat team.

Let's say we accept the premise that Lack is worth a 2nd. How does adding a 1st next year (the position of which is completely unknown) upend up netting Vancouver the 9th overall this year PLUS a quality young player? Explain to my why San Jose would "expand the deal" like that. They lose out big time

IF!

The deal was with Lack and a 1st it would be this years.

You're looking at Lack, Tanev, Gaunce and probably Kassian with this years 1st rounder +

And That is for San Jose's 9th overall pick this year and a one time rookie phenom.

The only reason this deal is equitable is Tanev and Kassian and San Jose has a history of young guys breaking out and doing less than nothing after. See former 50 goal scoring San Jose Phenom J Cheechoo

Even then you'd probably have to toss in a pick next year or this year.

And sadly...I'd do it.

Hertl and the 9th this year representing a potential franchise winger or D man....it's what this club ordered

Are you kidding? Yak is one of the worst defensive forwards in the NHL.

I'd rather trade to get a d-man.

He's also only 21, signed to a great contract for the next 2 years, and has been playing on the worst team in the league. Dubnyk was practically drummed out of the NHL after his stint in Edmonton, look what happened when he went to a team with an actual coach and system. You simply don't trade away a 21 yar old former first overall pick for a 27 year old 1b goalie who is a year away from free agency

I would not be trading Tanev for anything.

Isn't there kind of an obvious choice in packaging this year's 1st with Lack to get a higher 1st?

Maybe Dallas or Colorado, Edm or SJ if he doesn't want to stay out of the division. I would rather keep Ed-die! Ed-die! out of the division.

To get the ninth they may have to throw in a decent asset, but who knows what Wilson is thinking. All I know is that Niemi is not sweet. Neither is Lehtonen, Varlamov (last year at least), Pavelic, and at least one more I am forgetting. Lack is better than Halak, Neuvirth, Ward, Fasth/Scrivens (also known as the McDavid duo), better than Bernier so far, although if he turns out elite I won't be shocked. Hell, isn't Lack better than Fleury?

Lack, an Ottawa goalie, and Talbot - and I have to think at least three teams that should make net moves (even MIN and STL have question marks). But it'll take a lot to chisel a first rounder this year for sure.

Too late, it's confirmed, didn't you read the trades and rumours section yesterday? Benning will trade Lack for a 2nd.

Not sure if I 100% trust him, he's an Ottawa Sun reporter. I understand that he can get information for other teams as well but I always thought Lack was worth a low-end first rounder... or at the very least packaged into a more intriguing proposal rather than a single pick.

I figured we'd try to trade a couple RFAs like Weber / Stanton or a few vets like Higgins for a 2nd or 3rd.

Ah well we shall see. I think Carolina would be a good spot for Lack, they need to change things up from Ward there.

It'd be nice to try to get more but at best I can only see a 2nd + a mid level prospect for Lack

I doubt SJ would make a move like this but a Lack + Hamhuis for 1st (2015 or 2016) + 2nd (2015) + prospect and they might bite on something like this due to the chemistry Hamhuis had with Burns during the international tourney this year.

It is a huge price to pay for the sharks which is why I doubt they will do it and will want to keep adding youth to their organizations as opposed to adding band aids to their team for the immediate future. If the deal went through I do think it may push San Jose to the playoffs but it also depends on if they move Jumbo Joe & / or Marleau.

I think some D will be moved & some vets may get moved as well - I do think Higgins could land a decent return depending on where he goes (also if he waives), Weber as RFA not sure what rights usually have in trade value but he is coming off a solid offensive season so maybe a team would bite.

I don't think you understand, it's 100% confirmed, I saw a thread title in the CDC Trades and Rumours Section saying it would happen. This shat is going down...

Haha I was about to get angry, then I succumbed to the sarcasm and then was slightly amused
