Anyone download the windows 10 free download?

Recommended Posts

You are mistaken. I see tons of pc's all the time that have done the windows 7 to windows 8 "upgrades" that are totally screwed by weird problems that are solely due to the upgrade.

Also you won't be able to simply reload a windows 7 pc with a windows 10 upgrade with windows 10. You will be forced to reload windows 7 and then install the upgrade to Windows 10. The licence keys are bonded to upgrade only. Won't be valid for a clean windows 10 install. It's the same way with windows 8 pc's that have upgraded from windows 7.

As for your last point I think it will depend on the machine. People with a newer pc that has a UEFI license key probably will have no problems because the key will likely be re registered, vs people who do not, probably won't be able to use it properly after a year and a day.

Yes. Once you upgrade to Windows 10 successfully using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to clean reinstall Windows 10 on the same device during and after the free upgrade offer period without having to purchase Windows 10 or having to go back to the prior version of Windows that you upgraded from.

If you actually read what you posted you would notice that it's saying during the free upgrade period only. So after day 365 it's exactly how this will work.

Microsoft hasn't learned to count yet?

You mean why the leap from 8 to 10?

Blame it on lazy programmers:

Many of you should be old enough to remember that there have already been two versions of Windows that began with the number 9, specifically Windows 95 and Windows 98.

To save time, some third-party Windows desktop developers used a shorthand to check the version name (not number) of Windows they were installing their app to. Instead of coding apps to check for Windows 95 or Windows 98, developers coded instructions to check for "Windows 9."

I didn't think it would be something so stupid, but at the same I'm not exactly surprised.

People back in the late 90s and early 2000s called 95 and 98 "9x" just like in the early 90s they called 3.0 and 3.1 "3x".

Seems pretty logical that it's to avoid confusion for people who aren't new to computers.

As for 10, the ASUS ROG I bought came with 8.1, which is a **** OS on par with Vista and WinME.. not even Classic Shell and other tweaks can save it, so I'll gladly upgrade this machine to Windows 10 next month.
