[Proposal] Getting Younger Before Its Too Late

Recommended Posts

If you look around the league, championship teams are built through the draft, with surrounding or finishing pieces added through free agency or trade. No one has bandaged there way to the finals by adding a piece to an existing stale group.

Teams such as Tampa, Chicago, and LA all made it because of drafting. You could say "oh but look at Chicago they had the first overall pick and got Kane and also Toews, and we're never in that position" but at the same time they drafted guys like Saad, Seabrook, Keith...

We need to get higher picks, we nes to get more picks, we can't keep bandaging up this group and hope a miracle happens.

Guys like Higgins, Hansen, Hamhuis are not for us anymore but they can have value for someone else.

Before its too late we need to trade them for picks and turn this team around. For example if we had traded Matthias at the deadline we could have gotten a solid draft pick for him but we had hope that he could help us and we ended getting nothin. That hope must be ignored to build something for tomorrow.

It's already too late if you ask me. I totally agree we need more picks though. JB should be trading to replace our 2nd and 3rd. Easier said than done.

If you harken back to the 1999 entry draft, we had the first 2 overall picks. We picked Hedin and Dedin. The 4 years before that we STUNK, and that was what allowed us to able to be in a position to acquire those picks (we stunk for a few years after as well). The problem is, we didn't win in 2011 when we were at the top of our cycle. That was our window. It's already too late. We are on the next cycle and are going to relish in mediocrity until either JB makes some great moves or we build up our talent pool and make another splash. We are 2-3 years away from being a true contender. Anything before that is a Cinderella story. As long as JB doesn't manage us like Toronto has over the last few years, we should be fine.

We actually had the 2nd and 3rd pick overall. In his finest work ever Burkie worked it so Atlanta would take Patrik Steffan #1 overall (stop laughing) and the Rangers would take Pavel Brendl 4th overall (stop laughing).

You are right, my bad. I even went through the draft online before I posted that.
