[Rumour] Red Wings willing to trade Mantha and 1st

these trade deals are all the same...first assume that the other gm's are stupid...then we send all the players that we deem not of any use to us anymore, for players we think will give us home runs...in short we always have to win every trade...we have to give equal value in trades....put yourselves in the other teams shoes and ask yourself, what would they want...if someone wanted horvat and our first, what would we want back?

the other teams cast offs?

This. This exactly. People need to read this before making a one sided proposal... :picard:

You always offer up Kassian. Not only that you want to offer up Cassels or Gaunce two of our good young prospects as well as Hamhuis for a kid that was publicly called out by one of the most respected execs in the NHL. Hamhuis for the 19th pick is not good because you could get a 1st and a very good prospect at the trade deadline as contenders would pay a lot for a premier shutdown d like Hamhuis. So now you give up Kassian and either Gaunce who developing great in Utica or Cassels who could become a premier shutdown center for a kid with a big red flag attached to him.

Despite being called out by management and having an "off" year by some people, he's still a highly touted prospect with a ton of offensive skills. You're not going to get someone like him, without giving up some young assets, in return.

Hamhuis has one year left in his contract, so there's a risk of him not re-signing with Detroit.

Gaunce and Cassels had outstanding years, with their respected clubs, but are unproven at the NHL. You could say, Mantha is also unproven, but his potential to be a top 6 forward, is way higher than both Gaunce's and Cassels'.

I've already touched on why Kassian should be a trading chip in other threads. He's been way too inconsistent with his play and when he is playing well, he's gets too reckless with his body, which causes him to be on the shelf. In my opinion, his time here has ran it's course.

Not when they have umpteen Billion NHL prospects who are close to making the team. It's was wonder how Utica was able to beat Grand Rapids

That is interesting.

I have just looked at the GRG roster and it is amazing that only Larkin (apart from McCollum the goalie ) appears to have been taken in the first round and many are 3rd or 4th+ rounds or undrafted. This speaks volumes for the scouting and coaching in Detroit.

Constantly successful teams need to find a way to "beat" the draft. That is where I hope we are on the right track with Benning and Utica/Green.

You could but you could easily be wrong. Look at my post above. You have to wonder what the Detroit system would do for/with gems like Gaunce or Cassels.

Anthony Mantha rated "C" for possible success by Hockey's Future.

"Mantha is purely and simply a goal scorer. He has a great frame that he uses to fight through traffic, solid puck awareness and offensive positioning, all topped with a heavy wrister that he can fire quickly and smoothly. For a player of his size, he skates very well but he needs to keep his feet moving and work hard on both sides of the puck. Mantha is does not mind physical play and will willingly engage in battles, but can sometimes be goaded into undisciplined penalties."

You failed to ignore the most important part on his hockey future page.

Mantha joined the professional ranks in 2014-15; skating for Red Wings' AHL affiliate Grand Rapids. Slowed by an injury that kept him from competing for an NHL spot in Detroit, he returned to the ice in November 2014. He has had the battles and struggles not uncommon for a first-year pro making the jump from junior hockey. Long-term he is expected to be a consistent scorer at the NHL level and a top-line forward.

We already have an abundance of two-way prospects, as it is. What we lack is a prospect with some offensive flair, like Mantha.

Agreed, I just think Detroit will be asking too much, almost a JB type deal; they'll likely want a young player who is further along in development. No that doesn't mean Vey

The Detroit Red Wings are apparently opening their prospect cupboard as they approach the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

The Red Wings were relatively quiet at the trade deadline partially because they didn't want to deal 2013 first-round pick Anthony Mantha or their 2015 first-round pick. Detroit is now willing to consider parting with those pieces, according to Sportsnet's Damien Cox.

Expectations regarding Mantha were high following back-to-back 50-goal seasons in the QMJHL, but he recorded 33 points in 62 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins in his first professional season and added four points in 16 playoff contests. While that bumpy AHL debut isn't likely to hurt Mantha's trade value, the franchise no longer considers him untouchable like they once did.

Detroit holds the 19th overall pick at the draft.

To det

Edler

Jensen or vey

For

To van:

Mantha

1st round pick

horrible.

Edler itself is worth more then the 1st and Mantha combined. Let alone your throwing in Jensen????

thats a fair trade.

Detroit would need to throw in a defenceman, Quellet, Smith, ETC (no Kronwall or Dekesyer) but the value is right

You guys do know that Mantha is projected to be one of Detroit's top scorers right? Offering Jensen and/or Bieksa with random picks won't cut it let alone including their first. Holland is more willing to trade his 1st round pick anyway which he has a history of trading his higher round picks. We would have to at least offer one of our better prospects back (someone like Shinkaruk) and a pick with it. Even then Detroit would be looking to make some sort of a package deal that would include Mantha and get a big name player in return, which we don't have. So as lovely as it would be for Mantha to come to Vancouver, it's not going to happen.
