Provost
Berglund would actually be a decent pickup I think, still young enough and with talent that in a different system could really up his point total. He is a player that has "needs a change of scenery" written all over him. Playing either centre or wing is a bonus, could mesh well with Vrbata as high end offensive guys. If you can trade for him and a prospect that fits organizational needs... and send out one of our veterans and a prospect we may have depth in... it could be a decent hockey trade for both sides. Junkyard Dog
Backes would cost too much. Oshie the same probably.
touchable
I'd love Oshie in a Nucks uni at 4.175 Lack and Cassels for Oshie? Did you miss the part where it said they only want to trade apples for apples? If Oshie is an apple, Cassels is an apple tree sapling, and Lack is a kiwi. DownUndaCanuck
Backes is 31. Oshie is 28. Bergland is essentially a carbon copy of Matthias. There's no point in getting one of Backes or Oshie unless Benning suddenly decides he wants to pack it up and go for the Cup now. Unless we're trading veterans away, he's not going to move a good young player for one of Backes or Oshie. I'd do this though: Bieksa + Boninio + Higgins for Backes If it doesn't seem fair, break it down. Offence: 20-30 point defenceman + 30-40 point center + 30 point winger > 50-60 point center in Backes Physicality: Bieksa + Higgins > Backes Defence: Bonino and Higgins both kill penalties, and Bieksa can slot into a 20 minute 2nd pairing role St. Louis wants a change, they're letting Jackman walk and could seriously use a veteran tough defenceman like Bieksa. They also clearly want a change of their core and Bonino is still young, while Higgins gives them some nice depth too. Meanwhile on the Canucks side, they free up some cap (not sure how St. Louis' cap is looking but they're letting some players go so it'll change) and room for rookies. Sedin - Sedin - Vbrata Baertschi - Backes - Burrows Jensen/Shinkaruk/Gaunce/Kenins - Horvat - Hansen Dorsett - Richardson - Kassian/Vey On defence, sign Green or Franson ideally to replace Bieksa. 2 years 5-6M. Edler - Tanev Hamhuis - Franson/Green Sbisa - Clendening Stanton - Corrado
Provost
Backes would cost too much. Oshie the same probably. Yep, I agree that is why I think Berglund could be an under the radar type of guy who could be gotten at a decent value. They need centre prospects and we have some extras.... we need defensive prospects and they have a couple of nice looking Finnish guys who could use some more playing time in a crowded AHL defensive lineup. Swap prospects, swap veterans, some little pieces either way and it is a good deal all around. I disagree that Berglund is a Matthias copy as is suggested, he is much more highly skilled with the puck and is more versatile to be used on the 2nd line with other skill guys. Bass_Solo
So you're saying Bonino++? Bonino + lack for Oshie + Blues 2nd round pick. Works for both teams and is pretty fair imo.
Pears
Bonino + lack for Oshie + Blues 2nd round pick. Works for both teams and is pretty fair imo. I'd do that if we could sign say Vermette for the 2nd/3rd line. Sedin - Sedin - Oshie Baertschi - Vermette/Horvat - Vrbata Burrows - Horvat/Vermette - Kassian Dorsett - Richarsdon/Matthias/Vey/UFA - Hansen Pretty nice forward group if Baertschi is ready for top six time. messier's_elbow
Horvat and Lack for Backes? Cause that's the minimum it would cost. Nucks don't have the depth of assets to give up. I could see Calgary or Edmonton being trading partners with the Blues. What are you on? Let's trade our future for a guy who's gonna make 6-7 mill a year and it's in his 30s

Master Mind
As I've been saying for years, Backes' leadership (or lack of) is the main reason the Blues can't take the next step. If they can trade him, and bring in a good leadership group, they'll finally contend.
