J.I.A.H.N
Ok, looking at this mess one more time, I was thinking that Benning,Linden, and Aqualini have probably had this discussion and have looked at the development angle and the financial angle and probably would have agreed with the following scenario . 2015 Draft We move only players we have to move, which in this case is a lesser goalie, a lesser dman or 2, and a lesser forward. (All minor role players) Possible players moving at draft day..........Lack/Markstrom, Bieska, and Higgins Bennings only goal will to be to gather a 2 and 3 round pick, and move enough players, to open up enough space for those that can not be waived, which is why Virtanen stays in junior after his 8 game stint. 2015-2016 Season Canucks are not as competitive, as Edmonton, Dallas, Calgary, LA and Colorado pick their play up and there are almost no easy games for the Sedin's or the Canucks 2015-2016 Deadline Benning has Linden's and Aqualini's permission to move major pieces, as Aqualini knows he has to protect his asset long term. The Canucks at this junction are in 18th place over all. But Benning pulls the plug. Possible players that move will be, Hamhuis, Vrbata, Hansen, Kassian Going into the 2016 draft, Benning will have a multitude of 1st and 2nd round picks and the Canucks will be drafting from the #5 to 7 spot over all. Despite all the criticism CDC has spewed at Benning, Benning sits at the 2016-2017 draft with 3 first round picks and several 2nds. Picks a elite forward and several highly rated defenceman, and stocks the cupboard full. 2016-2017 Season Canucks suffer through their first full season of loosing, crowds are thinning and Benning says that the Canucks are in a developing process, and he has received a great deal of interest in Edler and Bonino. Benning states that Edler is not on the market. 2016-2017 Deadline Edler and Bonino are traded for a mid-1st round draft pick and a blue chip prospect, after Benning sweetens the pot with Bonino. 2017 Draft With several very high picks, 2 pick OA , plus the Edler pick, Benning completes his young core. Summer of 2017 With the UFA market in full swing, and the Sedin's in the last year of their contract, Benning sets out to fill the holes in his roster with UFA's, because of the Canucks recent purging of veterans, the Canuck find themselves with millions of dollars in cap space, and a very full prospect cabinet, as well many that have just graduated into the NHL. Benning now contemplates buying an RFA. Johansen that is now 25, is in search of big money, and Vancouver jumps at him, and Columbus does not match. Johansen signs an 7 year contract for huge money.......Horvat and McCann make Vancouver's centers the best 1, 2, 3 and Cassels wins the Selke............the Canucks are back and win the Stanley cup in 2017-2018.
