Interesting Free Agents from around the world

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd do some digging on a sleepless night. So, excluding the NHL, AHL, ECHL, and CHL, here are some interesting prospects from around the world (all stats come from eliteprospects.com). I tried to find clips for all of them but only found them for a few of them:

Mattias Karlsson | D | 30 yo | 6'3" | 229 lbs | SWE | HV71, SHL (Sweden)

He's not young anymore, but he does have the size and shot to gain attention from an NA team. Whether he does or not is another story. He scored 24 points in 54 games.

Martin Mellberg | F | 19 yo | 6'1" | 185 lbs | SWE | Timrå J20, SuperElit (Sweden)

This young gun had 41 points in 41 games as a RW this year, and had 3 points in 2 playoff games. Could be an interesting pickup to shore up our RW depth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EJ1QDTuCtk

Stefano Giliati | F | 27 yo | 5'11" | 198 lbs | CAN/ITA | Blues, Liiga (Finland)

Giliati is speedy, plays with grit, and has decent scoring ability, as per EP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ua3xQLuP5Tk

Andrew Clark | F | 27 yo | 5'10" | 190 lbs | CAN | Erbsjerg, AL-Bank Liga (Denmark)

Had >2 PPG this year. He has been over a point-per-game in every league he's played in except for a bit of a season with Bridgeport a couple years ago. Could be a good depth center for the Comets.

Filip Pavlík | D | 22 yo | 6'0" | 198 lbs | CZE | HC Litvinov, Extraliga (Czech Republic)

Pavlík is the highest scoring FA defenseman available from this league, he's young, big, and he's got a good +/- of 8, which means that he's not terrible defensively.

Radovan Pulis | F | 23 yo | 6'1" | 209 lbs | SVK | HKM Zvolen, Extraliga (Slovakia)

Yet another interesting pick, he is apparently a" [p]layer who owns perfect offensive instinct and nose for net. He have great potential, he is great shooter and use physical game very well, but he had a problem with injury, in past and so he works very hard now." (Player's EP profile) Would be interesting to take a look at, if Benning likes heart and meat and potatoes still. He was >1 PPG this season and had a +/- of 17. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VJFqvbt_Qg

Andrej Kosaristan | G | 21 yo | 6'0" | 176 lbs | SVK | HC Banska Bystrica, Extraliga (Slovakia)

He's a little light, but he had a GAA of 2.08 and a S% of .921. Would be worth looking into, as he's younger and has time to adapt to the NA game.

Armin Hofer | D | 28 yo | 6'0" | 198 lbs | ITA | Val Pusteria, Serie A (Italy)

"Hofer is a defenseman who plays a well-rounded game. Is an excellent skater with a good shot from the point. Also handles the physical part well." (EP Profile) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-Q3hkIIJJA

Nice analysis. This isn't something you see all the time. This is probably the sort of thing guys like Gillis do to find gems like Tanev and Lack, except they also go out to Europe.

Stefano Giliati is a net crasher and looks willing to drop the gloves. His name was spelled Gigliati on one of the jerseys in the vid, his nickname could be Jiggly. Kinds looks like Jovo too.

Good work Jazz.

I'd be interested in those Extraliga guys (Pulis, Pavlik). What's the competitiveness level there though?

Anyways good work OP!

The Slovak league (Pulis) is like the USHL of pro leagues, as the U20 team plays against some teams. Fourth-most competitive league in Europe after SWE, FIN, CZE.

The Czech league (Pavlík) is the third-most competitive league in Europe, according to the IIHF. This extraliga promotes relegation and the Czechs are the third-most populous group in the NHL as of 2012.

And thanks!

Florian Proske | G | 18 | 6'0 | 165 | GER | Heilbronner Falken

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=53152

Undersized goalie is currently unranked and is set to go undrafted. His upside is that he is already playing against men at 18 in Germany's tier 2 DEL. He is in position to be called up to the top tier of DEL and was loaned to Adler Mannheim before.

A project of possibly 7 or 8 years, he is a goalie we can keep in the pipeline whilst not burning a roster spot on if he signs a DEL1 contract, meaning we wouldn't see him for 3 years anyways, minimum. Also a safe 7th round pick if the chance arises.

His downside is obviously his size and inexperience. But at 18 he has time to gain muscle and maybe another inch in height.

An interesting note is that at 18, Proske was outplaying most veterans at his level.

Nikolai Prokhorkin | C/LW | 21 | 6'2 | 183 | RUS | CSKA Moskva

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=93769

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/nikolai_prokhorkin/

Talent Analysis

Prokhorkin possesses great puck-handling skills, impressive creativity and on-ice vision and plays a big physical game. He needs to pack on more muscle, but Prokhorkin is not opposed to, nor does he shy away from contact and playing in tight spaces. Like some other talented young Russian players, the Kings face some uncertainty as to whether Prokhorkin will come to North America if he is not assured a spot with the NHL club

Has the size and skill just needs the opportunity to shine. Kings have yet to sign him.

Only guy worth taking a look at is Pulis, but it seems more of a Dave Nonis move to try him than a Jim Benning move.

None of these guys should take jobs from our young Comets, let lone Canucks.

Armin Hofer?... wow.... We are digging deep.
