Where do you rank our Top 3 Dmen

Maybe you & I have a different definition of what "great" is then. But, the reality is that Edler is PAID like a #1 and is expected to PLAY like one. THAT'S why he's on the 'Nucks #1 pairing. As far as I'm concerned, both he & Tanev are "#1's" by default and have no business being described by anyone as "great".

#1D make $7m and up. Edler makes $5m. So not paid like one.

Edler / Tanev play first pairing due to a lack of better options, not because they're #1 or #2 D's.

Edler is a great #2, Tanev is a good #3 or #4.

That's just two statistics out of so much more...

Byron Bitz used to play on the top line ahead of Kesler and Burrows, must mean he's better than Kesler and Burrows, right?

Until Byron bitz makes the Olympics for Team Canada and Sweden please refrain from using him In a same sentence as Hamhuis and Edler.

I think you've got Calgary quite high, but the thing that all of those teams have is a guy that can play 30 mins a night no problem. I like our 3 guys, but we don't have that guy that can stay out there forever and do everything. Not many teams win a cup without one.

That's because he was paired with Weber

l00% agree with that part. Although when you look back at the majority of middle and top tier D men they showed great potential early but had to really hone their game at the NHL level especially offensively. D men are asked to do so much more in the modern day game that I think regardless of skill level there is still a big learning curve.

Keith took about 5 years to show up.

Hedman is just rounding in to form - about 5 years.

Doughty stepped in right away, but for the most part defense takes 4-5 years to develop.

Moral of the story we're in for a long-long waiting period for an improved d-core; especially for that special #1/1a guy.

Karlsson: 15th

PK Subban: 43rd

Giordano: undrafted

Letang: 62nd

Hedman: 2nd

Shea Weber: 49th

Duncan Keith: 54th

Should I keep on going? Star defensemen are notorious for popping up all over the draft.

Lidstrom - #53, etc....

As for where our defense stands; I'd say it's around middle of the pack, plus or minus a couple standard deviations.

I'm just happy the situation with our defense is getting a lot of attention; hopefully the brass is equally concerned.

Unless we can make some serious moves for one I totally agree.

On THIS team, he is paid as a #1 and makes more in salary than any other defenceman. Did I really need to explain that?

And, you basically echoed what I said regarding the "#1" pairing of Edler/Tanev.

No, he's paid like the #2 he is. His team and his team mates relative salaries have little bearing on this.

No, you're echoing what I said but stating it incorrectly.

Edmonton

Carolina

Toronto

Arizona

Colorado

Dallas

Philadelphia

Buffalo

New Jersey

Columbus

Detroit

Detroit for sure and arguably Colorado and Arizona at least they have top minutes powerplay QB's in Barrie and OEL.
