To Toronto:

F- Zach Hyman (rights)

Conditional 2017 7th rounder

To Florida:

F- Greg McKegg

___________________________________

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired forward Zach Hyman from the Florida Panthers on Friday in exchange for forward Greg McKegg.

The Maple Leafs also received a conditional seventh round draft pick in 2017 from the Panthers in the deal.

Hyman, a Hobey Baker finalist with the Michigan Wolverines last season, was drafted by the Panthers in the fifth round (123rd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft but refused to sign an entry-level contract with the Panthers.

While a deal has not been finalized, TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reported Friday that Hyman is expected to join the Leafs.

The Maple Leafs can negotiate exclusively with Hyman on a contract until August 15.

Hyman, 23, scored 22 goals and 54 points in 37 games with the Wolverines.

McKegg, also 23, was drafted in the third round of the 2010 draft. He appeared in three games with the Leafs last season, registering no points.

In 62 games with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, McKegg scored 22 goals and added 15 assists.

Both are likely to only end up as AHLers. There is still some hope for Hyman though, which is why there might be a pick going to Florida.

Edit: Never mind, pick is actually going to Toronto.

conditional so probably only if he doesn't sign with TO

Perhaps not a big splash, but it is the beginning of the pre-draft frenzy.

From his bio on Hockey's Future, Hymen seems to have the better potential, he was Captain in OJHL and earned minutes in NCAA. Seems like TO won the day with the addition of the conditional pick. Neither appear to be difference makers.

McKegg will be a good AHLer, so there is that :P

McKegg is an injury call up. Still young. Kinda like McMillan.

Hyman had a great season with the Wolverines. Still has potential and he will get a shot at training camp.

Both guys could make the NHL next season, but both could also get buried if they have bad training camps. Toronto wins because if they don't like Hyman after scouting him a bit more or if he decides to walk they have a pick to fall back on.
