To NYR: Brooks Orpik, Ron Hainsey, 2016 FLA 3rd To TB: Jiri Hudler, Gabryel Boudreau I am happy to be the first to quote this news. I want to thank Jiri Hudler for all he has done for New York, and he did some very heavy lifting at Madison Square Garden and did so right up to the trade. It was an honour having him in our jersey, night after night and it was a hard moment to realize we needed to do something on the blueline in order to shake up our team and change the trajection of where we are headed this year. I am a personal fan of his, and it makes it so much harder to part with a valuable and great player when you just love to watch them work too. That being said our goal is not to tank, but to finish respectably and now that it is january build for next year. The past three months were destined to be an uphill fight with only 6 blueliners, and that is why we had to move a key forward to build the depth out back. We didn't expect to lose Mike SMith, and that is another shock to the system....It is nice to see what Joonas Korpisalo brings between the pipes. Brooks Orpik and Ron Hainsey, welcome to the club! When we assessed our needs, prior to losing Mike Smith, the one huge spot was a couple of our defensive prospects didn't quite make it out of camp this fall. We needed to fill those two holes quickly, yet allow for our great young guns to move in over the next 2 to 5 years. We needed to not just fill holes, but acquire good long term pieces that we coveted already for contributions on the ice. Brooks and Ron fit the bill perfectly, and made this trade almost a necessity as we came closer and closer to the bottom of the standings. Happy to have them both aboard and we are looking forward toa long and successful time together. As I said earlier, it is doubtful we could pull off a ride to the playoffs now, but we can finish respectfully while trying. Tanking isnt in my DNA, it really did just happen, but not for long. To our many fans, hold on tight, this will be a wild 3 or 4 months!!

We wish Paul the best of luck. We had high hopes for him when he was acquired a few years back, but he had been surpassed on the depth chart with younger players simply because they were playing. 6 hours ago, Canuck Surfer said: Not a major transaction, but an appreciated one. Which was what led to the waive. Hopefully he gets back into the lineup for you.
