CDCGML 2015-16 (Taking Applications for New GMs!)

Gained 227 and lost 115 = netted 112 points at the deadline. Glad that I made the push and made it, kinda sucks that Eriksson, Stempniak, and Beauchemin all didn't make it, and somehow Hiller got shutout and Gustavsson got 20.

On the eve of the first ever appearance by the Montreal Canadiens in the CDCGML playoffs, the excitement is palpable. The entire organization is amped up, as are the fans who cannot wait to fill the Bell Centre and belt out some "Ole's".

MONTREAL CANADIENS PLAYOFF ROSTER

Fleischmann - Grabovski - Read

Upshall - Haula - Wagner

Burns - Demers

Coburn - Theodore

Blujus

Lundqvist

Greiss

*Husso

*Not on opening round roster

When asked about their first-round matchup with the Ottawa Senators, who have an almost full 23-man roster rolling into the matchup tomorrow, GM _arby_18 said that he is aware that it will be a stiff test but that he believes that his group is up to the task.

"We are well aware that we are short a few bodies compared to the Sens, but we believe that we have a quality of player that could help us hold our own in the first round," the Habs GM said.

"We may not have the full power of our roster at our disposal, but our best players are pretty darn good players in the league and we think that they will do some damage."

Having high-powered players like Brent Burns, Rick Nash and super-rookie Dylan Larkin lead the charge has Habs fans optimistic, as does some solid depth players in good roles like Marcus Johansson, Tomas Fleischmann and Jason Demers. But the fact that they have two goalies expected to be starters for the opening round is the ultimate equalizer.

"Look, we all know that Hank is the starter here, but Griess has been tremendous this year too," _arby_18 explained. "He's a quality 1B option and likely wouldn't be starting Game 1 if not for an injury situation. It's a stroke of luck, to be sure."

Finally, it would be folly to ignore the trade deadline move that saw the Habs spend some solid futures in Colin Miller and a late 2016 1st for Braydon Coburn and Scottie Upshall, but those two players were targeted as playoff-bound players and it looks to have worked out.

"Braydon and Scottie provide us much needed depth for this playoff run," _arby_18 offered. "We pretty much have 15 skaters going, which isn't a ton compared to our opposition, but it would be 13 without these two. We're as pleased that we acquired them today as we were when we did at the deadline, if not more so. We expect their veteran presence to help."

"But seriously, I can't wait for this to get started. Bring on the playoffs!"

LOS ANGELES KINGS PLAYOFF ROSTER

Anders Lee - Nicklas Backstrom - Wayne Simmonds

Dmitrij Jaskin - Ryan Johansen - David Perron

Jason Chimera - Tommy Wingels - Kirill Petrov

Ryan Suter - Marco Scandella

Johnny Oduya - Dmitry Orlov

Jonathan Ericsson

Troy Grosenick

Dustin Tokarski

Some real good top talent, but awful depth...hardly any to form a decent squad. Really tough to compete in the playoffs without a goalie, but it'll be a good test. That is going to be a major key for next season, as this year was a season to contend but also keep our draft picks since we inherited two players in our minor league. Didn't feel the prices at the trade deadline were worth moving basically all my picks in deals I had lined up. Going to be more active on the trade market and free agency.

Haven't had the chance to really make a post since the deadline, as I've been really busy with things outside the league. Hoping to be more active as we lead up to the draft and into the offseason.

First off, tip of the hat to Dallas GM Wilb. Haven't really had the chance to interact with you personally, but from everything I've read in the thread, you seem like an amazing person and an inspiration to many. Didn't get the time to enter in my nominations for the league awards, but I would have nominated you for the Masterson Trophy as well like some other GMs did.

Moving onto the state of the Red Wings, where this season couldn't end any faster (much like the Canucks IRL ). Entering the season as a team that had aspirations of making the playoffs, to bottoming out and being in the lottery, this season was probably the lowest of lows since taking over the team a few years ago. We've been patient with our younger players, and have built one of the better farm systems in the league, so I suppose this is part of the growing pain with a younger group of players. With that being said, the playoffs are the goal heading into next season, and there will be a bit of a shift in how we approach this offseason to better our chances of making it there.

The Red Wings would also like to congratulate Ryan O'Reilly for winning the Lady Byng Trophy (although it cost our team one spot in the lottery :P). It is always rewarding to see a player that works hard night in night out get rewarded by other GMs in the league. Very proud to have him on the roster and as a leader in the locker room.

The phone lines are open in Detroit, for any teams outside the playoffs looking to talk trade. There is no question we can use help in goal, but we have laid out a plan of action to address our need between the pipes so we don't 'take the pipe' in any deal if that is the route we decide to go. Some notable players may be made available in the right circumstances, but don't expect anything Earth-shattering to happen prior to the Lottery when things become a bit more clear as to how the Draft will shape up.

Good luck to all the teams in the playoffs, should see some tightly contested match-ups!
