[Trade] Ryan O'Reilly to Sabres

Recommended Posts

Be willing to bet we take a forward. Have a lot of D prospects and really need forward ones. Sign Sekera/Ehrhoff/Martin and play one of Bigras or Zadorov in the other top 4 lefty spot and we're right in the mix for a wild card spot.

Rantanen?

So tanking works as long as there's a direct purpose to doing it and a plan for the immediate aftermath.

Because look out for Buffalo.

Yup. This is why I was in favour of tanking last year and want to tank next year. What good did making the playoffs and getting embarrassed by Calgary do for us? Would much rather be one of these teams getting a lottery pick right now.

Hah, can't believe I forgot Eichel. They also have Ennis who is a pretty solid center.

Ennis is not a center. Hodgson is. Both were tasked with making the transition to wing last year, Ennis did, Hodgson didn't. Sabres center depth is presently

Eichel

Reinhart

OReily

Girgensens

Larsson

McCormik

Legwand

Obviously something has to give. More trades and/or centers moving to wing as Eichel and Reinhart are worked into the roster.

Look at the trade this way...

Zadorov - Good kid but kind of flaky. Got suspended by the team twice last year. Still going to miss him though. He's going to be a pretty good D-man in the NHL.

Grigorenko - Everybody here knows his story. Flight risk. Disappointing. Very redundant with all of the centre talent that the Sabres have.

Compher - His play regressed this past season in the NCAA.

No. 31 pick - Will fetch a decent prospect tomorrow, but not a young NHL-ready one.

------------------

ROR - Good player. Will be expensive to re-sign, but the Sabres have loads of cap space to work with.

McGinn - Decent young player, but he has chronic back problems.

-------------------

This trade comes down to 2 players. ROR and Zadorov. Which one will be the best in the long run? I don't know, but the one good thing is that the Sabres didn't give up anything that they couldn't easily afford.

Sabres look like they are moving in the right direction.

Eichel, ROR and Reinhart will be interesting to watch.
