Too bad he can't wear #16 for the Canucks. Looks a lot like this guy...

if brock becomes even 1/3 the player Hull was, that's a massive win!

damn. i didn't even know Hull was a SIXTH ROUND PICK. wow. what a career he had for a player picked at the sixth round.

1,300 points (approx). that's amazing.

If Brock's career is anything like that, I'd die and gone to heaven ::D

I remember an interview with linden regarding Stetcher.  He didn't recieve his signing bonus yet so didn't have a car. He would bike some absurd distance to the Canucks training facility daily. Work out like a mad man often puking in a bucket. Continue working out. Then bike an absurd distance home.

Single

Day

That right there separates the horvats a and stetchers from the kassians and Hodgsons.

I dont think work ethic was a problem with Hodgson. Kassian yes, and you can throw Virtanen in that mix as well of guys that don't quite get it. Good for Kassian though that hes quit his drinking problem

You clearly don't know much about Virtanen

so there in the final 4. so this series then a game or series to determine 3rd?

Looks like its one game for both the semi-final and championship game. I believe North Dakota's opponent will be determined today for the March 17th semi-final - either Denver or Minnesota Duluth. The winner of that game goes on to play in the championship.

Kassian was actually very well regarded in terms of his work ethic, at least when it comes to training, until other factors (such as his substance abuse issues) derailed things.

Go back four or five years and you'll read lots of reports (like this one) where he's praised for being one of the hardest working players in the gym and during summer programs.

Even dating back to junior, his coaches would single him out as one of the most hardworking guys on their team, and cite the challenges of his upbringing (father's death at an early age, single mom, financial pressures, having to work to overcome obstacles) as key factors in his developing a work ethic and maturity that was ahead of his peers.

Consistency and focus are separate issues. Kassian seems to be a guy who struggled to maintain a sense of direction. But when he was put on target and received the proper guidance, he definitely had the drive necessary to put in the work.

I don't want to speculate too much about how much of a factor his father's death was, but there does seem to be a sense that Zack has performed well when he's had "father figures" guiding him and run into some problems when he's been left too much to his own devices.

Also, there's no amount of work ethic that can (on its own) defeat the disease of addiction. Similarly, a strong work ethic doesn't provide immunity to the mental health challenges that can result from tragedies like losing a parent at an early age. A capacity for hard work will help a lot in overcoming these kinds of issues, but only when a person is ready to face them and has the necessary support systems in place to heal themselves and sustain their recovery.

I don't mean to belabour the point. Just wanted to note that "work ethic" hasn't really been Zack's problem. It's quite arguably one of Kassian's strengths. But other, more complex issues have at times compromised his ability to succeed, despite him having a strong underlying work ethic.

UND playing tonight?  sorry a bit confused by these posts.

UND won first two games out of three and waiting for opponent. That comment "UND wins" was from yesterday, March 11. The score is still 1:1 between UNO and WMU in the 3rd.
