Yes, and the results can likewise follow.  Look at teams like Winnipeg, Avs, and Columbus, languishing in the basement despite having so many quality young players.  Then suddenly in one season it all comes together.  I think we could see the same thing -- maybe a year or two of struggles, then it clicks in and we're back in business.  We do have the advantage though of some like Brock and Bo already up and establishing themselves.

So you are saying people born early in a year, like January, have no hope of being a professional player?

Actually, there have been more players born in January (799) play in the NHL than players born in any other month. March, April and February are next so it would appear the earlier you were born in the year the better your chances of making it to the NHL

I love the optimism, but if Gaudette puts up 20 goals/40 points as a rookie, I would be super stoked on that .

Gaudette will put up 40 + points next season.  He's an amazing player, and physically/emotionally mature.  He will be used in an offensive role, because Sutter will continue as the shut-down and dzone (right shot) face-off guy.  I see: 20 goals and 20 assists.

Wow - that's a lofty statement.  I don't believe so, but I do hope you're right.  In order to get those kinds of numbers, he would have to get the ice time and unless he is placed on special teams and in the top 6, I'm not sure that's even really possible.

If we managed to get even 30 points out of him in his rookie year, I'd be very, very happy.  Heck - considering his draft position I'd be happy if he was even a solid bottom 6 player in his prime.

I never once thought that any of our NCAA prospects would bolt, certainly not this kid after watching the vid of him hearing the news he got drafted.  People were getting scared because he liked a post from Boeser?  Pretty paranoid.  I hope he turns pro, I can see why his coach would warn about the optimism but deep down he just wants his best player back for another yearB)

Either did I.  To not even be concerned shows to me that we are drafting not just quality players, but quality people as well.  I think that will be important as we form our new team.

I think it can speak to the parity in the league.  Some teams figure out how to push that little bit more each and every night that leads to wins more often than not.  Some teams have to rely on an individual performance to get them through which can work short term (Talbot in Edmonton last year vs this year) but not year to year.

Gladwell opened one of his books by discussing two teams playing for the Mem CUP championship. The teams were anaylized by birth and it was discovered that the winning team had more players born earlier in the year. Gladwell's conclusion was that players born earlier in the year developed faster and earlier because on average they would be physically bigger, more mature and most important that they would be more likely to make rep teams. Rep teams gave them more skills repetition, more TOI and better coaching. Gladwell is a big advocate of 10,000 repetitions to better skill. Gretzky also talks about it.

Anything of note?

Talked about going specifically to NW because it is close to home.

Talked about the "team" as we a lot and said their goals were the bean pot and winning the final four. Go one so far only one more to get.

Said he MIGHT come to Vancouver this year, depends on final four.

That's the big one, if he goes back next year he is a FA at the end.

We worried about that with Boeser and nothing came of it but his kid sounds different. That quoted had a beginning and an end to it that isn't there.

Ok.  So from 4 hours ago....

The quote came right after he was talking about being all in for winning the final four before coming to Vancouver, there must be a radio sound clip of the whole interview somewhere. I know the radio guys mentioned right away after the interview about him not signing this year and that if he stayed to win the final four he could sign with any team.

Whatever, his season is done soon and he shows up or not, if not then .......trade bait, very good trade bait at the draft?

Here you can see where my post came from. It is the order of the interview and the other comments, his loyalty may keep him there and his agent might work to get him with a better team (Vesey) if he plays out next year.

Yup, still not sure how you drew that conclusion though.  He is obligated in his mind to finish his season with his school.  If they play to the end it's April 7th.

The NHL regular season ends April 7th for Vancouver.

2+2 is in fact 4

But hey...Guardian type reasons ;)

Just like the 'Benning Signed' thread. People cherry picking out of context things to support a false narrative while willfully ignoring reality.

It's boggling :picard:

Seriously @StealthNuck, the neg needs to come back ^^^

Why? Because the interview was cropped to one segment and I looked at the whole thing? How do you misinterpret "I don't know when"?

And if it is at the end of next the college year he is a FA and his agent may have something to say. Linden and Benning are nice guys they might decide not to push the envelope, they have certainly taken players thoughts into account during their reign.
