[TRADE] Grossmann to ARZ

Recommended Posts

Since when can you trade a player on LTIR?

The NHL bending the rules for Philly again?

I don't think he is technically on the LTIR in the offseason. If I am not mistaken when Philly was abusing the LTIR loophole with him he would technically count against the cap for day 1 of the NHL season and they would have to send down players on 2 way contracts like Couturier and Schenn until they could legally LTIR him then they would call them back up (often before they ahd to actually play any games).

1. The NHL gives Pronger a job he shouldnt be eligible for

2. The NHL acquires his contract for its franchise

I think its safe to say Pronger is going into the HHOF!

Thought the Coyotes need offense, and they don't have much already. Trading Gagner to get Grossmann doesn't help.

Philly can probably still trade Sam for another asset or keep him if they really want, plus Pronger's cap is gone.

Easy to say they win for that.

Weird seeing Gagner get tossed around, he is the epitome of a second line center.

Consistently has put up better than .5ppg throughout his entire career. In Arizona he lead forwards in both goals and points. As a playmaking centre his point totals could have a looked a lot better if flanked by good wingers. He only has one year left on his contract, plus he is still quite young. While 5 million is a little bit more than he is worth it isn't horrible compared to what lesser players get paid.

He's not on LTI, LTI only exists during the season. And you can trade for injured players as well, so long as both teams are aware of the injury and accept. The only real issue here is the extent of the injury (combined with his age) effectively rules out Pronger from ever playing again so this is purely a cap move and should be considered circumvention on that part.

If #Flyers end up buying out Gagner, as proposed, they'd essentially have moved Pronger ($4.94M) plus Grossmann ($3.5M) for $633K buyout hit

Not unexpected (and a part of the CBA, but a loophole nonetheless).
