Ghostsof1915
Space X's Falcon 9 exploded on its way into space. Flying a Dragon cargo module to the International Space Station. I love how they now call it an "anomaly". Uh...it exploded!!! 18 successful launches and it has a failure. Meanwhile the Soyuz rockets used by Russia since the 1960's has one failure in every 39 launches. Maybe NASA needs to re-think this commercial venture program? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egkykvyCu38

thejazz97
Wonder how much that cost. I don't know, but I'm wondering if they have space in their budget for another one.

Gurn
"Meanwhile the Soyuz rockets used by Russia since the 1960's has one failure in every 39 launches." How many of the first 19 launches of Soyuz ended badly?
taxi
Wonder how much that cost. SpaceX charges 61.2 million per launch. The price is comparable to the other major option, the Russian Soyuz system: http://www.astronautix.com/articles/costhing.htm However, Russia charges the US a rate based on cargo weight that they profit from. Therefore, it probably makes sense for the US to spend the 60mil domestically and just send their own flights up. The Russian are currently phasing out the other Soyuz rockets in favor of the new Soyuz 2. The Soyuz 2 has failed twice and had one partial attempt out of just over 40 attempts: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soyuz-2_(rocket)

SabreFan1
Wonder how much that cost. Much less than what a NASA Atlas rocket would cost. It's one of the benefits of having commercial rockets.
SabreFan1
Gee,,,,I wonder what the "tower" said when it exploded? *edit* Sky News cut out the audio. I'll find the actual NASA video. Here's an abbreviated copy of the NASA feed: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2015/06/28/elon-musks-spacex-to-attempt-historic-landing/
