[Trade] Martin Jones to San Jose

Recommended Posts

Lol. Benning looks like more of an idiot than he already is. Jones played behind the best puck possession team in the league last yr - and lack still had a significantly better SV%. Meanwhile, Lack played behind Sbsa all season.

That's who you make a trade and get value for players, Benning take notes.

posession lowers save percent and GAA...

lack was a ufa next year, jones is an rfa this year and could be offer sheeted for more than lacks salary. Also any team getting Lack could have easily made a short term extension to him like bernier and reimer in toronto.

So yes, we got fleeced our GM fliched at the draft, he lost out on that sj 2nd so he took any offer for lack. Lack has proven more and is worth more than Jones hands down.

No, there is no praising Sweeney. He drafted 13, 14 and 15 and all three of them could be misses. He gave up Hamilton and kept Seidenberg and Chara. There is NO praising Sweeney.

Bruins got a Seguin during a trade with Toronto

Wouldn't it be kinda funny on Wilson if they tanked won the lottery and handed that pick to the Bruins?

I am not a Bruins fan at all but after this week I dislike Wilson more.

In the years that they were traded for their 1st's

Schneider: 17-9-4, 5 S.O., 2.11 G.A.A. 0.927 save %
Martin Jones: 4-5-2, 3 S.O., 2.25 G.A.A., 0.906 save %

And Lehner?
9-12-3, 0 S.O. 3.02 G.A.A., 0.905 save %

Lack?
18-13-4, 2 S.O. 2.45 G.A.A., 0.921 save %

How then are the first two moved this year worth that much more than Eddie? I get it about the contract but if S.J. signed Eddie they would easily have a starter moving forward, and (I do recall that it was brought up earlier but) it confuses me why there's such a big gap in the returns (Talbot, with the 21-9-4, 5 S.O. 2.21 G.A.A., 0.926 save % only got a 2nd and 3rd). Hopefully J.B. can do better in any future moves.

It's not about perceived value. Doug Wilson missed out on a chance to have Lack or Talbot at a much more reasonable price at the draft and as such, has to overpay because he had nothing to go with and very few pieces to chase.

Jones is not worth a first, GMDW painted himself into a corner and had no other recourse.

I doubt that. It sounds like Wilson was after Jones ahead of Lack, although he may have had interest in Lehner as well (not as sure about Talbot). He was already talking to Benning about Bieksa, so I'm sure he asked about Lack - or at least he would have if he held any significant interest.

No kidding, how do some teams keep getting gifts like this? Does Jacobs really hold that much power?

I'd love to see it explode in San Jose's face, but then it'd mean they gave a great pick to Boston (barring Stalock stepping in and doing ok).

Don't worry the B's will screw up the pick :)

So the Kessel deal turned into two first rounders...Dougie Hamilton and Tyler Seguin. That's a fantastic return!

...but actually turned out to be Loui Erickson, Reilly Smith, Joseph Morrow, a 1st and two seconds? Morrow may bust, Erikson is almost done, the future draft picks may never turn out.

Boston blew it...Hamilton and Seguin probably were worth closer to 4 first rounders at this point!

I like Martin Jones, I watched him play for the Hitmen and Team Canada. Might be one of the best goalies to come out of the WHL since Carey Price.

He could end up being a great NHL goaltender one day. He's got good numbers in the AHL.

Having said that, he's now the #1 guy on a team in a tough division, and based on his rate of pay, he's expected to carry the load.

Stalock is not much more experienced, and both goalies combined have less than 100 games of NHL experience.

Unless Wilson works some magic to insulate his goalies with world-class defense, they are going to have some challenges this year.

It could be worse, though. Martin Jones could have ended up in Calgary. He would have been able to lean on Hiller, and Jones has a ton of experience playing in the Saddledome.

This Jones trade makes no sense value-wise. He is 25, undrafted, never played a full AHL season, only had a decent stint with Los Angeles during their hay-day when their defence was the best in the NHL and now that it's a bit in shambles, he puts up average numbers.

Fleeced.

The Lehner trade I understand because Legwand adds value.

The Lack trade I can comprehend because Eddie was a couple years older than most other goalies (still should have been able to add a 2nd rounder instead of a 3rd + 7th, but the value's close).

The Jones trade is a bit rediculous.
