The Sedins are nearing the twilight of their career, however, as proven by last season's resurgence, are still competent and infinitely talented players who possess hockey IQ and skill that few do in the league.

That being said, I wonder how they must view the present state of the club they have played their entire careers (up to this point) for. The Vancouver Canucks are no longer a legitimate contender and possibly won't be for another 3-5 years. This puts both Henrik and Daniel at 38 years old, when contention is possible.

They will be older, and due to the style of play (which isn't overtly physical) be that much more worn down by aggressive players who take advantage of their non confrontational style of play.

If they stay with the Canucks, is that them effectively admitting that a Cup is out of their reach, and not really a motivating factor in their plans anymore?

They have both received accolades in the form of NHL awards, and respect from the league (outside of Sequin and Bolland). All that's left really is their names on a Cup. They deserve another crack at it.

They've signed here with NMC's knowing what we all know. At the end of the day it's millions of dollars to play a game in the city you've started families in and have grown to love. I don't think their performance or how the team does played a part in negotiations at all. They will do the best they can until the end of their current contracts and then they'll make a decision on what to do going further.

Many on here (including myself) have immeasurable loyalty to the twins, and all that they have done for our team, our fanbase and Vancity is beyond compare by practically any other current NHL'er. We talk about the 2011 cup run and what might have been, but let's face it, without Hank and Dank, there is no 2011 cup run. BUT...

Having said that, I don't want another Calgary type situation (with Iginla) where it takes years to recover once the star player(s) start to take a downturn. A trade to a contender could actually be a win-win. We're telling the twins that we respect them so much that we are gracious enough to want them to win a cup...even if it's not with our beloved Nucks. I have no problem with that. I will personally send them a thank-you for all your service and wish them the best in their new situation. And once the goodbye's have been said, we move on. We rebuild with our new found wealth.

And the best timing for this trade to happen? TD March 2016. This is when their max value can be capitalized on. Bubble teams look to push their way in, contenders look to solidify their run. And as such we can gain some 1st round picks and a couple of serviceable NHL'ers to play out the year.

There is no guratnetee they would win a cup anywhere, Kesler certainly learned that the hard way. I hope they retire Cancuks and take lean contracts after the expiration of their current ones. When the Sedins are surpassed as our top line and they fill a secondary role, we will be in a good situation.....

.....EDIT: Hopefully.

They have said they're not going to play for any other NHL teams. They're loyal and honest people who withstand all the "Sedins are soft" comments and always play the role of leaders. They're not going to leave, and they might play for modo after they retire in the NHL, but will not play for any other NHL team besides Vancouver.

At TD 2016:

Send Hank and Dan to WAS for Kuznetsov, Laich and their 2016 1st and 2nd

OR

Send Hank, Dan and a depth D to OTT for Turris, Ceci, and their 2016 1st

This should push either of these teams over the top (OTT off the bubble and WAS into the finals) and gives us some serviceable youth in return + 2 x 2016 1st (note: ours should be fairly high).

Of these 2 deals I see Washington more willing to pull the trigger and give up some talented youth (Kuznetsov) to get over the top...they seem so close now. Their top 2 line pairings would then be Backstrom with OVI8 and then the twins...truly a 1a/1b situation. They could possibly win 2 straight there.

Would immediately become by far the worst trades in franchise history.

The only deal I would do would be

Daniel Henrik for Ovechkin and first

Or Daniel Henrik for their next 5 first rounders and kuznetsov
