[Signing] Jets re-sign Drew Stafford

Recommended Posts

That's a terrible deal for the Jets IMHO.

How so?

Stafford played pretty well for the Jets and the cap hit is fair for what he brings.

This also aligns great with the young forwards they have to develop. By the time he's gone someone in their farm should be ready to replace him. If a young player is ready earlier than expected then Stafford becomes a trade asset.

Perfect deal honestly.

Stafford is perpetually a candidate to be bumped down to the 4th or healrhy scratched. Doesn't play consistently enough with the puck or on the body. He's a lesser Higgins.

He was seasons past but since arriving to Winnipeg he's found his game. Was near p/g.

You clearly haven't watched him play a single game in a Jets uniform. He was outstanding for them.

Maybe you should know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

The problem is that he doesn't bring it often enough.

I simply think its way too much money for a guy who will spend the majority of his two years playing on the 3rd line.

He had a decent bump after the acquisition but I'll be shocked if he can maintain anything over 0.5 p/g.

He'll likely go missing for multiple long stretches every season like he has done every year for the past 10 years.

I have....so you're wrong about that. Maybe you shouldn't make assumptions.

He won't keep it up IMO. Just like he never has.

That's my opinion. I suppose we will see.

At his best he's a 50pt, middle six winger. At his worst, he's a 35pt bottom six winger. But to compare him to Chris Higgins, and negatively at that, isn't really fair. Chris Higgins goes to bed at night wishing he wakes up the next day in Drew Stafford's body.

Well, as a Jets fan who watches them on a consistent basis, people in Winnipeg were really hoping this would get done. He's a perfect fit on the second line with Scheifele and found instant chemistry with him and Wheeler. And two years is nothing at all. Was expecting him to want a long term contract due to this age. Thankfully the Jets didn't have to be handcuffed for a long time. Entirely movable contract should he not pan out after year one.

This also allows the Jets time to not rush Joel Armia, Brendan Lemieux, and Scott Kosmachuk. However, the deal isn't so long (4-5 years) that when their prospects are ready to push for the second line that they'll have to make a decision and trade one of them away.

Honestly, this is a great deal for the Jets.

He might but Stafford is better than Higgins IMO. He is also a great fit with Scheifele.

He is also going to be playing on a team that has a solid chance of making the playoffs and not a team that was the worst in points the last 2 seasons.

I strongly disagree when you said this is a terrible deal for the Jets. This is a perfect deal for them. Like I said the term fits perfectly with the prospects they have and he can become a trade asset if a young forward proves that they can replace him.

lol.. +1 for the humour.. I think he would rather wake up in Crosby/Toews/Ovechkin/Tavares body though :P
