What has Franson done to earn this respect?

besides learning to lose...

Well he can score points. Something our Dmen couldn't seem to do last season aside from Weber. Franson would be a big risk though, given his defensive play.

Matt Bartkowski at $3mil is A LOT better than Garrison at $4mil and Bieksa at $4.5mil.

Bartkowski, unlike Garrison, has a shot that can get on net and he is a good power play threat, as he proved in college. Sure, he has zero goals in the NHL so far, but that will change when he starts getting Sedin feeds on the power play. Bartkowski actually has scored one goal in the playoffs, making him a clutch performer.

Bartkowski has played 131 games so far and is an unrestricted free agent. After his solid seasons in Boston he is ready for a good raise. His best asset by far, Bartkowski's hockey iq is through the roof and that's why he on the Canuck radar. Unlike Garrison who can't shoot the puck worth a darn and Bieksa who constantly makes brain farts while covering for Sbisa, Matt Bartkowski will be a welcome addition to the Canucks that will entertain fans here for years to come.

Bartkowski is the perfect blend of skill, speed and physicality that the Canucks really need right now. We should be very, very excited when he officially signs with the Vancouver Canucks.

What percentage of your posts in the last few days have been serious? Stop trolling this forum. Especially because sometimes it's hard to even tell if you're serious...

Back on topic, I want Irwin. He is definitely worth 3-3.5 million IMO. He's played 17-20 minutes a game for the last 3 seasons. In 2013, he was on the top pair with Dan Boyle on a good playoff team (one that swept us...) and didn't look out of place as a rookie.

Eventually he fell out of favour in San Jose, but I don't think he would have that problem here. He would instantly be the 4th best D-man on this team. With Hamhuis most likely leaving next year, he would have even more of an opportunity.

I just don't know if he has the ability to play on the right side. Sbisa does. Here's a few options:

Edler - Tanev

Hamhuis - Sbisa

Irwin - Clendening/Corrado

Edler - Tanev

Hamhuis - Clendening/Corrado

Irwin - Sbisa

Edler - Tanev

Hamhuis - Irwin

Sbisa - Clendening/Corrado

And it becomes much simpler if Hamhuis leaves.

A good case has been made for Irwin but I would still go with the Hoff. He will help maintain some level of competitiveness and if the team isn't making the playoffs and right offer comes up he can be dealt as a deadline deal which can help with the youth movement.
