elvis15
So let's say Franson signs for $5m and Hoff signs for $4m...a $1m difference and you get a way better all around player in Franson who makes a difference even if he isn't scoring whereas Hoff goes invisible if he isn't like his past year in Pittsburgh. And btw stop living in the past lol. Hoff is a distant memory. And did you not read the OP? JB says he wants a new young core. Hoff is anything but young and looking at JBs track record, he's never had a Hoff type player really and he wouldn't start now going back on his own word. Sure, if you want to use made up numbers. I can make up numbers too: how about if Franson signs for $6M and Ehrhoff for $3? It's not about living in the past, it's about understanding what UFAs will cost since you clearly have no idea. Jack Fig
For $5M/year, Franson is a luxury purchase for some team that needs to jack up their powerplay. That's why he'll get it. But the Canucks are in no position to be that team.

I said approx in the poll and you know he'd have to take a hometown discount to come here/below market value right? Yea that is a thing. And Hoff at $3 JB won't get him. He's 32, injury prone, and if you want to make up numbers, same logic he won't sign for that much

DinoTambo
No one that requires a NTC!! No big money or long term. So no to Franson. ID say no to all others on the list, re-sign Weber to 2yrs/4.5mil. Then I'd throw Corrado and Clendenning into the fire and hope for the best. Or worst if you're a draftist like me. Just cause you have cap space now doesn't mean you have to use it...especially in a weakish UFA market. And with all the Western conf getting better in the last wk, I personally think, and hope, the Canucks will finish in the bottom 10, or even worse. They need another top 10 pk! Preferably a top 5 or 3... Bottom line,Canucks would be better served to not spend big money and hopefully, by accident (injuries to Hank and or Miller), slip into the bottom the basement. aqua59
Shedding Bieksa' salary increases the cap space. I wouldn't be surprised to see JB make more moves to create some more cap room.
The Honey Badger
i personally don't think signing ufa defense for keeping them as core defense is a good idea. The canucks have already committed to most young defense long term in hoping to develop them (edler, sbisa, clendening, tanev, corrado; benning is hoping to sign weber), so the depth d signing should be for mentoring. The best ufa defense would be an inexpensive veteran defensive d who can mentor these players for a year. For that, I'm thinking michal rozsival or marek zidlicky. Both are approaching end of their career but they can be very effective mentor. paul martin would be great but I think he's looking for long term and big money

Hamhuis and Garrison did it, but that was when the team looked like Stanley Cup contenders.

Gaudette Celly
Bartkowski but he won't get $3 mill. I think he can be had for around $2.0 mill per year on a 3 year deal Who in their right mind is going to give Bartkowski 3 or even 2 million per season, especially after the brutal year he just had, much of it as a healthy scratch He made $1.25mil last year and will be lucky to get that. If there's competition, maybe $1.5. Benning's targets: 1. Ehrhoff (as per HW) 2. Bartkowski He made it very clear again today that he wants a MOBILE puck-mover that clears it from the zone quickly. That probably cuts out Franson, as we cannot afford him anyway unless he dumps more assets.
PhillipBlunt
I got it. Bring up Clendening, Corrado, and Pedan. Clendening is the PP specialist. Corrado is the all around good blueliner. Pedan is the hulking psycho who likes to fight. Let other teams waste money/cap space by signing Green, Franson, Erhoff, Sekera and the other overrated available UFA's. I'll note that in case that actually happens.
PhillipBlunt
The only reason to sign Franson is to entice Shea Weber to request a trade here. Both Franson and Hamhuis are long standing friends of Weber's. Nashville will regress next year and considering Weber will be hitting the big 3-0 his value will recede somewhat. However Poile never signed the clauses Weber's agent requested.....
