Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have signed defenceman Matt Bartkowski to a one-year deal.

Bartkowski, 27, spent the 2014-15 season with the Boston Bruins, collecting four assists and 37 penalty minutes in 47 games. He has appeared in 131 career games with Boston, recording 24 assists and 77 penalty minutes.

The Pittsburgh, PA native was originally selected in the seventh round, 190th overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Potential top 4 defenseman. Young enough

What does this guy bring...not tough..doesnt score..no goals in 131 games.. sure its a 1 years deal but dont we have some guys that accomplish this?

You think Frankie Corrado and Adam Clendenning are going to play 82 good games? That's what this accomplishes.

I dont think Clendenning and Corrado will play anywhere near 82 games, they will probably be 7/8 Ds with the signing of Weber and Bartkowski.

Roster

Sedin Sedin Burrows

Baertschi Bonino Vrbata

Higgins Horvat Kassian

Dorsett Vey Hansen

Kenins Grenier

Edler Tanev

Hamhuis Corrado

Sbisa Clendening

Bartowski Weber

Not a bad lineup

Obviously the pairings will change but that's not terrible

Yep, that is the lineup. Lets hope we find magic in a bottle somewhere, not sure where it will be though.

Only thing I can see adding is another centre

Maybe we will see something good, there are rumours Pittsburgh wants to move out Sutter right now for cap space. I think he would fit nicely, though it would probably require a little massaging of our lineup as well.
